Whitehorse is classified as an Isolated Post. As such, the successful candidate must meet all the conditions under the Isolated Posts and Government Housing Directive prior to appointment. In addition, the successful candidate will be entitled to an Isolated Post Allowance.

Important financial information:
  • Isolated Post Allowances (Northern Allowance) for Whitehorse ranges from approximately $3,912 to $6,385 which is based on if the employee has dependents.
  • Vacation Travel Assistance is provided once a year for Whitehorse of approximately $743 for each eligible member of the household.

Limited Duration Posting:

  • Please note that this posting will be for a period of 2 years.
  • In the event you are appointed, you will enter into a written agreement (pre-posting agreement) identifying geographic provisions for deployment following completion of your posting.

A pre-posting agreement will apply to both CM and PS employees prior to entering their limited duration posting. The agreement will be provided to the employee in conjunction with their letter of offer.

Should the appointment be to an Isolated Post as described in Appendix A of the NJC Isolated Posts and Government Housing Directive, the pre-posting agreement will allow employees to identify three (3) divisions/locations to which they would like to be deployed upon completion of their posting period.

Intent of the process


Candidates who are qualified at the TCO-01 level and who are selected for the Telecommunications Operator Training Program** will be appointed to a determinate (term) appointment at the TCO-01 group and level.

TCO \xe2\x80\x93 JOB EXPECTATIONS: ALL APPLICANTS MUST PARTICIPATE IN AN INFORMATION SESSION

Upon initial appointment as a Police Dispatcher Trainee, continued employment is conditional upon successful completion of classroom training, field coaching, simulation exams and proficiency evaluations for call-taking and dispatching.

Telecommunication Operators including Trainees (9-1-1 Police Dispatchers) occupy safety-sensitive positions and as such, must refrain from using recreational cannabis 28 days prior to reporting to work. A safety-sensitive position is a position in which the employee has a role in an RCMP operation or an operational support role where impairment could result in:
  • a serious accident, injury, fatality or incident affecting the health and/or safety of employees, the public, or the work environment
  • poor decision making, which could lead to an inadequate response and/or failure to respond to an emergency situation

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

Conditions of employment


RCMP Security clearance, Enhanced reliability status.

  • Work shift work (24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year)
  • Meet and maintain the medical profile standards established for the position, and (if applicable) any additional medical requirements for isolated posts, in accordance with the National Joint Council Isolated Posts and Government Housing Directive
  • Exposure to emotionally charged clients and incidents which may be traumatic, violent and disturbing
  • Work in a confined or restrictive workspace, wear a headset and exposure to multiple computer screens and noise disturbances for extended periods of time
