Your role
As a producer of CBC North\xe2\x80\x99s multiplatform news coverage you will be in charge of planning, organizing and producing daily news and current affairs content that engages the audience and reflects the NWT in all of its diversity. Your responsibilities will include working closely with the NWT\xe2\x80\x99s senior producer on assigning and overseeing reporters, videographers, and videojournalists to effectively and efficiently cover the stories and issues affecting the people of the Northwest Territories. You will be responsible for vetting stories from reporters in the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Nunavut for radio, television, and web platforms. The position will also involve some responsibility for CBC North\xe2\x80\x99s social media, and may include some enterprise reporting and content production. The successful candidate will be a strong journalist and leader; a collaborative thinker and team player; and a coach who is invested in the development of new and budding journalists. They are invested in telling the stories of the people of the North to the people of the North, and are an advocate for their audience\xe2\x80\x99s needs. They have ideas for daily coverage and special projects and are not afraid to be vocal; and are willing to be creative in uses of sound to present a strong radio newscast. They are detail-oriented and well versed in CBC\xe2\x80\x99s journalistic standards and practices, willing to take up tough questions with reporters and be the last line of defense before our reporting is published. Reporting to the Managing Editor, you will be a key piece of our journalistic leadership team, playing a role in developing long term strategy and projects while shaping our daily news coverage. Please note the schedule for this position is from 12:00 pm to 8:45 pm.



We are looking for a candidate with the following:
  • Proven leadership abilities; a strong team leader with the ability to inspire others.

  • Elite broadcasting writing and editing skills; experience in radio and/or television production is an asset.

  • Strong digital skills, including writing, editing and story packaging.

  • A combination of relevant education or experience equal to that of an education in journalism or broadcasting and five years of relevant experience.

  • Knowledge of Canada\xe2\x80\x99s North, and in particular the Northwest Territories.

  • An ability to choose relevant, audience focused stories, which reflect issues being discussed by the general public.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and deadlines.

  • Knowledge of social media, especially Facebook.

  • Creative, flexible and self-motivated.

  • Quick to react and respond to breaking stories.

  • Demonstrated skills in the area of conflict resolution, mentoring, talent recognition and development.

  • Ability to work quickly and to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent interpersonal relations.
