St. Clair College is seeking an experienced and motivated professional who shares our commitment to quality and student success.

POSITION SUMMARY:



Under the direction of the Manager, Facilities Maintenance and Energy Management, the incumbent's position is to perform work of a skilled and specialized nature in designing, modifying, fabricating, repairing and replacing equipment related to the operation, maintenance and installation of the College's mechanical systems. This position requires the technical skills for mechanical services including plumbing, drainage, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and associated building control systems, swimming pool, welding, natural gas line service and installation and repair of high temperature, high pressure heating systems to ensure that all work meets standards, building codes and government regulations. The incumbent shall provide excellent customer service to the College population. The incumbent may also perform other duties related to and assigned by the Manager, including providing assistance to other trades personnel. The position supports both the Windsor Main Campus and the Downtown Campus locations. Frequent travel between campuses is expected and transportation will be provided. Incumbent must provide a copy of their current driver's license as well as a government issued driver's abstract.

CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:



Maintains the College's plumbing and drainage system by documented routine and scheduled maintenance and repair of all plumbing/drainage systems and associated equipment including fixtures, high temperature, high pressure heating systems, water distribution and drainage piping, etc.

Completes new plumbing installations ensuring that all Building Codes and Regulations are adhered to and completed in a timely manner.

Assist with installation, repair and maintenance of all HVAC, air conditioning, refrigeration, roof top units, heating systems, pneumatic control systems, electrical systems, lighting, fire alarm and powerhouse equipment and systems, swimming pool, high temperature, high pressure heating systems, natural gas systems (if applicable), fabricating, welding, and ventilation systems.

Assists in the development of Mechanical Preventative Maintenance Programs and Standard Operating Procedures.

Make recommendations for the purchase of replacement parts or new equipment. Consults with Facilities Construction and Engineering Department to assist in building renovation planning. Assists with updates to plumbing/drainage as-builds. Monitor and check new installations performed by contractors and reports problems/deficiencies.

Performs other related duties including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required or the work does not exceed the incumbents own limitations. Works as part of a team to monitor, adjust and maintain all conditions pertaining to the College's building environmental control system so as to obtain maximum efficient use of energy while maintaining user comfort and safety.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS REQUIRED):



EDUCATION

The ideal candidate must possess a Plumbing Certificate of Qualification (Journeyperson status).

Asset

:

Natural gas fitter 1 or 2 HVAC Certificate of Qualification or HVAC and BAS Technical Training
EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate must possess a minimum of 3 years' of recent and related experience Extensive knowledge of all aspects of plumbing and drainage systems in a commercial or institutional setting General knowledge of other systems including heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, air balancing, welding, pneumatics, hydraulics, standby generators, fire alarm systems, natural gas, master clocks, blueprint reading, building management systems and energy management Basic Computer Literacy
ANALYSIS & PROBLEM SOLVING

A section of the College drainage system is backing up Major equipment failure or malfunction Fault with a building system during the weekend
PLANNING/COORDINATING

Processing work orders for installation, repair and/or renovation of a building system Repair or system maintenance scheduled over an extended period of time. Cleaning of grease traps, oil and sediment interceptors. Incumbent will coordinate with contractors and area staff to successfully complete task usually out-with regular work hours
