PERMANENT FULL-TIME PLUMBER

The Richmond School District operates 38 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, alternate programs, continuing education and a number of additional facilities. The district enrolls approximately 22,000 students (K-12) and employs over 3,800 dedicated staff.


We are currently looking for a full-time permanent Plumber to join our Facilities Services department to perform plumbing duties at the journeyperson level across the district's 53 facilities.




Major Duties and Responsibilities




Installs, upgrades, services, and tests plumbing components, equipment and systems such as sanitary, storm, potable, natural gas, propane, compressed air and sprinkler systems to ensure safe and efficient operation. Responds to plumbing and piping emergencies throughout District Facilities. Troubleshoots technical problems with respect to pluming and piping stems. Prioritizes work orders and organizes daily work schedule; this includes keeping completed written records related to the work performed. Reads and interprets plans, drawings and specifications of District Facilities for the layout of plumbing system upgrades and repairs. Develops manual plans, sketches and drawings for the purpose of job layouts, presentative maintenance schedules and programs, permit applications and estimating time and materials required to complete the work. Provides technical advise, assistance and information to District Managers, Administrators, tradespeople and outside contractors in the plumbing trade capacity. Provides direction to temporary employees and outside contractors. Maintains familiarity with standards, codes and by-laws regulating the plumbing trade. Maintains current knowledge of technical, procedural and regulatory developments. Ensures work area remains safe and free of debris while on the job site, at the end of the day and upon completion of the work order. Ensures duties are in compliance with District and Government health and safety procedures and regulations that relate to the work performed to minimize potential for accidents, injuries or hazards. Operates a district vehicle and maintaining the vehicle's plumbing equipment and materials inventory as necessary. Performs other job related duties of comparable importance, difficulty and responsibility as required.

Required Qualifications




Grade 12 or equivalent plus a BC or Interprovincial Certificate of Apprenticeship in Plumbing or equivalent apprenticeship training and a BC or Interprovincial Certificate of Qualification in Plumbing (T.Q.); ASTTBC Certification for Portable Fire Extinguishers and Water Based Fire Protection Systems, and maintenance. Two (2) years' experience at a Journeyperson level in commercial or institutional service work, including maintenance, repair and installation of commercial and industrial equipment. Knowledge of new construction techniques and sprinkler systems. Class "B" Gas License with electrical endorsement. Certificate of Competency - cross connection control tester. Thorough knowledge of current techniques, methods, procedures, and equipment applicable to the plumbing trade. Ability to organize workload, work under periodic pressure and complete assignments with minimal supervision. Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, pushing, pulling and moving heavy materials, equipment and supplies and working in confined spaces. Excellent communication skills. Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.
