The plate maker is responsible for the preparation, handling, maintenance and management of the printing plates used on offset presses for the production of folding cartons. It ensures that plates are up to technical specifications, ready for printing, and available in a timely manner to support production operations.
Responsibilities :
Prepare the printing plates according to the work orders and specifications provided by the prepress department.
Check the accuracy of the plate information (colors, registration, version, orientation, numbering).
Handle, clean, identify, store and recycle plates according to established procedures.
Ensure that the required plates are available before the start of the printing jobs.
Collaborate closely with press operators, prepress and planning to minimize downtime and errors.
Inspect the plates for defects (scratches, contamination, improper engraving).
Provide basic maintenance of plate-related equipment (plate processor, washer, drying systems).
Maintain a clean, safe and organized work environment.
Strictly comply with occupational health and safety standards and environmental procedures.
Complete the required documentation (reports, records, traceability).
Any other related tasks.
Qualifications
High School Diploma (SSD) or equivalent.
Training in printing, prepress or related field (an asset).
Experience in offset printing or folding carton production (a strong asset).
Good understanding of offset printing processes.
Ability to read and interpret work orders and technical specifications.
Attention to detail and rigor in order to avoid production errors.
Good manual dexterity and ability to handle plates with precision.
Ability to work standing up and perform repetitive tasks.
Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.
