About the Position Reporting to VP, Ingredients this position will be responsible for all day- to-day operations of the Zealandia Terminal and supervision of staff. As Plant Manager, you will manage the site processing facilities with over 14 staff and is responsible for hiring, training, and mentoring/developing the team to increase facility throughput. Responsibilities
  • Assures a complete adherence to health and safety regulations and producers for all workers and visitors, including truckers, and other business partners;
  • Oversees and ensures compliance and continuous improvement of quality management systems (i.e., Food safety system and Safety programs);
  • Ensures all processing equipment is properly maintained and capable of working at its listed capacity to meet the company\xe2\x80\x99s volume and quality objectives;
  • Manages the receiving, weighing, grading, cleaning, processing, blending, packaging, handling and shipping of products ensuring optimal use of facility space and equipment to meet shipping commitments;
  • Works cooperatively with Merchandising and Transportation Logistics to maximize throughput and profitability including maintaining an up-to-date understanding of end-user requirements in order to plan for and meet specifications;
  • Works closely with logistics and planning departments to assist with timely and efficient shipment of grain products;
  • Manages and ensures that the facility In/Out products inventory is properly maintained with respect to peas, lentils, canary seed, edible beans, chickpeas and other specialty crops from local producers;
  • Develops a working relationship with farmer producers ensuring quality supply of products to the location;
  • Overseas the preparation and loading of export shipments in rail cars and containers according to company policies and industry best practices;
  • Develops a culture that promotes effective communication among employees and with external parties, such as farmers, transporters, and other business partners;
  • Develops and manages the preventative and predictive maintenance program for the entire facility\xe2\x80\x99s equipment and control systems;
  • Oversees the implementation of any capital expansion programs including, but not limited to, the installation of new equipment (e.g., storage bins, processing equipment, bagging systems, etc.) and new buildings (including gravel, concrete foundations, columns, beams, roofing, etc.);
  • Monitors profit and loss targets relating to the facility operations and implements corrective actions;
  • Develop and manage the entire facility operating budget and recommends capital requirements to the VP, Ingredients;
  • Oversees facility housekeeping and ensures that the facility and all equipment are clean and well-maintained;
  • Ensures adherence to all company policies and procedures;
  • Oversees and manages the facility\xe2\x80\x99s inventory management;
  • Responsible for all aspects of human resource management including hiring, promoting, performance management and discharging within company policy. Provides for effective staff development according to department requirements;
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • 3 + years\xe2\x80\x99 experience as a Plant Manager and proven managerial experience.
  • Strong work ethic, ability to learn and a willingness to take on the responsibilities of the position
  • Knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, yield management, demand creation, inventory and grain handling processes.
  • Able to work independently, within company policies and guidelines.
  • Experience purchasing pulses or specialty crops an asset.
  • Capable of office-related administrative work, as required.
  • Mechanical/electrical ability to operate and maintain grain processing equipment.
  • Physical ability to perform the required duties of the role within a specialty crops facility
  • Degree in Agriculture, Business Management or equivalent. Related experience is acceptable in lieu of required education.
  • Previous grain and/or special crops experience is considered an asset.
  • Computer/System literacy - Microsoft Office; Inventory/Planning/Scheduling Software.
  • Ability to create accountability and to lead by example.
  • Possess a valid class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license or higher.
  • Strong team building, decision-making, and people management skills.
