Job Overview:



The Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations and management of a grain elevator facility. This role involves ensuring efficient and safe handling, storage, processing and shipment of various pulses products while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and company policies. The Plant Manager is accountable for achieving production targets, managing a team of staff, maintaining equipment, and fostering a positive working environment.

Position Responsibilities:



Operations Management:

Oversee day-to-day operations of the grain facility, including receiving, grading, production, storing, and shipping of pulses products. Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure timely and accurate distribution. Collaborate with logistics teams to coordinate inbound and outbound shipments.

Team Leadership:

Hire, train, and manage a team of employees, including operators, maintenance personnel, and other general labour staff. Provide guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to ensure a skilled and motivated workforce. Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Safety and Compliance:

Enforce safety protocols and ensure that all employees adhere to safety guidelines and regulations. Stay current with industry regulations, environmental standards, and best practices to ensure compliance. Implement safety training programs and conduct regular safety meetings.

Maintenance and Equipment:

Coordinate maintenance and repairs of machinery, equipment, and facilities to ensure operational efficiency and minimize downtime. Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to prolong equipment lifespan.

Quality Control:

Collaborate with quality control teams to ensure that grains meet established quality standards. Implement procedures for grain sampling, testing, and quality assurance.

Customer Relations:

Maintain relationships with suppliers, farmers, and customers to ensure smooth transactions and address any concerns. Provide excellent customer service to foster positive relationships and ensure repeat business.

Reporting and Documentation:

Maintain accurate records of grain transactions, inventory levels, and operational activities. Prepare regular reports on production for senior management.

Employment Qualifications:



Bachelor's degree in agriculture, Business Management, or related field (preferred). Proven experience in grain elevator operations or related agricultural processing industries. Strong leadership and team management skills. Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance in the agricultural industry. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in using computer software and technology for record-keeping and reporting. Problem-solving abilities and adaptability to changing operational needs. Physical ability to perform tasks related to grain handling and facility maintenance.

The ability to identify and address operational challenges, equipment breakdowns, and unexpected issues quickly and effectively is essential. Plant managers need to make informed decisions to minimize disruptions and maintain smooth operations.

Grain elevator operations involve numerous decisions, from resource allocation to safety protocols. Strong decision-making skills are necessary to balance competing priorities and choose the best course of action for the facility.

Technical Aptitude:

A solid understanding of grain handling equipment, machinery, and technology used in elevator operations is important. This knowledge helps in troubleshooting issues and optimizing equipment performance.

Leadership and Team Building:

Beyond managing tasks, effective leadership involves inspiring and motivating the team, encouraging collaboration, and creating a positive work environment.
