Position Summary:
The
Plant Manager
will oversee all aspects of plant operations, including production planning, workforce supervision, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role is ideal for someone with deep experience in industrial equipment manufacturing--especially in mechanical fabrication and assembly of custom material handling systems. You will be responsible for driving safety, efficiency, and quality across all departments to meet demanding project schedules and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead daily plant operations including fabrication, assembly, welding, machining, and maintenance.
Supervise and support shop supervisors, tradespeople, and production staff.
Oversee the build of complex material handling systems tailored to sawmill applications.
Maintain production schedules, manage resources, and monitor progress to ensure timely delivery.
Enforce health & safety standards and promote a culture of safety compliance and accountability.
Work closely with engineering, purchasing, and project management teams to coordinate production needs and resolve challenges.
Implement process improvements to boost productivity, reduce waste, and streamline workflow.
Support hiring, training, and development of plant personnel.
Qualifications:
5+ years in a plant or production management role in a heavy equipment or custom fabrication environment.
In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes such as welding, steel fabrication, mechanical assembly, and machining.
Experience with custom-built equipment, ideally for the sawmill or forestry industries.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a hands-on management approach.
Proficient in interpreting blueprints and production drawings.
Familiar with Lean Manufacturing principles or other efficiency frameworks.
Proficiency in MS Office and ERP/MRP systems.
Technical diploma, degree, or trade certification in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing disciplines is preferred.
