Job Overview


We are seeking a Plant Manager to oversee all manufacturing operations within True North Log & Timber Homes' production facility. This role provides leadership, structure, and direction for the plant team, while ensuring safe, high-quality, and efficient production of handcrafted, custom log homes. The Plant Manager is accountable for meeting production targets, scheduling daily production lines and optimizing workflow, strengthening safety culture, and driving continuous improvement across all manufacturing processes. The Plant Manager will report directly to the Director of Operations.

Key Responsibilities



Manage all daily plant operations, including production, material handling, yard coordination, and shipping/receiving. Develop and execute plant-level policies, procedures, and standards aligned with company goals. Ensure all work follows approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards unique to log and timber home construction. Monitor production schedules and allocate labour to meet weekly and monthly targets. Maintain full compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations. Oversee safety training, workplace inspections, incident reporting, and corrective actions. Uphold and improve TNLH's quality control systems, including log grading, joinery accuracy, moisture targets, and finishing standards. Lead, coach, and develop plant staff, including Plant Supervisor, Lead Hands, shipping and receiving, and production teams. Conduct performance reviews, set expectations, address performance issues, and support succession planning. Foster a positive, collaborative, problem-solving culture across shifts and departments. Prepare and review daily/weekly production reports and KPIs. Track labour hours, production output, waste levels, and rework drivers through company-supported platforms and reporting structures. Analyze and control operating expenses, material usage, and budget adherence. Coordinate closely with Design and Project Management to ensure timely release of materials, drawings, and production requests. Support training programs for new hires, apprentices, and skilled labour. Implement improvements to workstation layout, tooling, fixtures, and process documentation. Lead lean initiatives focused on reducing bottlenecks, improving consistency, and increasing production efficiency. Maintain clear communication channels between production, PMs, Design, Sales and Logistics.

Qualifications



Proven experience in manufacturing management or plant operations leadership. Strong mechanical knowledge coupled with expertise in process improvement strategies such as lean manufacturing and Six Sigma. Proficiency with ERP systems, especially Business Central, and other MES systems. Knowledge of supply chain management, inventory control, and logistics coordination. 5-7+ years of experience in a manufacturing or construction production environment, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity. Familiarity with quality control procedures and assembly processes within a manufacturing environment. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams effectively while driving operational excellence. Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement initiatives. Bachelor's degree in Business, Manufacturing/Industrial Management, Construction Management, or related field; advanced certifications are a plus. Experience in woodworking, log/timber construction, or related trades is an asset.
