Our client is an industry leader in Canada specializing in asphalt products and services, with operations across the country and a long-standing reputation for safety, innovation, and service excellence. They are currently seeking a

hands-on Maintenance Technician

to join their Calgary facility. This role provides supervision and support to operators and labourers on shift, oversees day-to-day plant maintenance activities, and ensures compliance with safety and production standards.

Competitive hourly wages: $30-$32/hr for experienced candidates without tickets; $36-$38/hr for Journeyman Welders, Millwrights, or Power Engineers.

Position Summary



The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for providing leadership and direction in a small plant environment. This individual will support plant operations by handling routine maintenance, overseeing contractors for larger projects, and ensuring safe and efficient facility operations. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, confident leading others, and motivated to grow within a fast-paced industrial environment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities



Supervise and support operators and labourers, providing direction, mentorship, and training. Lead pre-shift safety meetings, conduct facility orientations, and ensure all work permits are properly completed. Coordinate and monitor work assignments including safety inspections, maintenance work orders, housekeeping, and incident reports. Perform general plant maintenance duties and oversee contracted work for larger projects. Enter data and maintain accurate records in JDE, including production and maintenance work orders. Conduct inventory checks and track materials to support efficient plant operations. Promote a culture of safety by enforcing procedures, identifying hazards, and responding to issues proactively. Collaborate with contractors, external service providers, and facility leadership to ensure smooth operations. Demonstrate strong interpersonal and leadership skills to motivate and guide team members.

Required Qualifications



High School Diploma or equivalent. Mechanical aptitude and physically fit to meet the demands of the role. Valid driver's license with a good driving record. Previous experience in a plant, industrial, or maintenance environment is preferred. Knowledge of JDE or similar systems is an asset. Journeyman Welder, Millwright, or Power Engineer (4th Class) certification is an asset but not required. Completion of required safety training and a strong commitment to safe work practices. Strong communication skills with the ability to lead by example.
