Role Overview
We are seeking a Planning Technician to help manage growth in our busy Hamilton office. The successful candidate will provide assistance to the Director of Operations and the permit team to successfully prepare and submit applications for various municipal approvals. The ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail and a strong desire for continuous learning.
Responsibilities
Comprehensive zoning analysis for potential projects in a variety of locations
Coordinate bidding process and preparation of site grading/servicing plans, arborist reports and septic designs with external partners
Complete and submit applications for zoning, minor variance, site plan, conservation and NEC approvals
Support the Director of Operations in project management of active files
Attend external meetings with various approval agencies
Prepare minor variance presentations and attend committee of adjustment hearings
Work in collaboration with team members to ensure successful progression of projects through the SMPL project roadmap
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in planning related environment
Experience in working with the zoning by-laws of various municipalities across Ontario, as well as the management and review of grading plans, servicing plans, and stormwater management plans
Knowledge of Ontario's land use planning system and municipal government processes
Proficient in MS Office; GIS skills are considered an asset
Outstanding work ethic and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment
Excellent organizational skills, with a high attention to detail
Capacity to manage multiple projects with the flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities
Ability to effectively provide and receive feedback in a positive manner
Driver's license and access to personal vehicle
