Job Description

The Emergency Medical Assistance Team (EMAT) was established in 2004 as part of the provincial government's commitment to help safeguard the healthcare system from health emergencies, mass casualties, and infectious disease outbreaks.

EMAT is a mobile and scalable medical field hospital that can be deployed anywhere in Ontario. The EMAT can provide a field hospital that supports triage, primary care, acute care, intensive care and mental health care needs during an emergency. Such deployments may take place in populous or remote, semi-austere environments using field hospital tents or buildings of opportunity. In addition, the EMAT can provide:

Patient care and isolation requirements in the case of an infectious diseases outbreak; Cold zone medical support and decontamination in the case of a chemical, biological or radiological incident; and Case management and triage of patients in a mass casualty situation.
Note: This is a contract position. EMAT leadership will ensure that an EMAT member works with his/her home organization for the provision of availability during deployments and training events.

Planning Technicians



Your primary role will be to provide administrative and planning support as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team. At times, you may also be required to perform other duties that contribute to the success of a given EMAT mission. As a member of the team, your responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Major Duties: Planning Technicians



Must be able to respond/deploy on short notice. Must undergo N95 mask fit testing every 2 years. Perform administrative and clerical duties to support EMAT deployment operations.
There are a variety of roles that you may be assigned depending on the type and scale of deployments. Some of these positions may include but are not limited to:

Ward and Registration Clerks; Administration and Clerical Positions; Situation Unit Leader; Documentation Unit Leader; Resource Unit Leader; Accountability Clerks; and/or Staging Area Manager.
Duties may include but are not be limited to:

Prepare and maintain rosters, charts, schedules, forms and reports. Maintain patient care records and medical documentation. Preparing documents and files necessary to support of the Incident Action Plan. Prepare, gather and maintain documentation such as maps, forms, weather reports, damage assessment and other reports from technical specialists. Collect, collate and disseminate information and intelligence requested by the Planning Section Chief. Participate in meetings and briefings as required by the Planning Section Chief and summarize notes and action items. Gather, post and maintain status of incident resources. Required to comply with EMAT/Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre's Policies and Procedures.

Qualifications/Experience



Minimum 3 years' experience in clerical and administrative environments within the Ontario health system. Employment in an Ontario Hospital or Emergency Medical Service is an asset. Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience with communication software i.e. Zoom, MS Teams. Additional Professional Microsoft Suite education courses are an asset. Basic knowledge of the Incident Management System is an asset. Education in Emergency and Disaster Management, Project Management, Public Safety Administration, and Public Health Administration is an asset. Administrative, medical or technical communications knowledge and/or experience that would allow for rapid cross-training and assignment within the Logistics team. Multilingualism an asset. Knowledge and/or experience in CBRNE an asset.
Any additional skills and certifications considered an asset to EMAT's operations are welcome.

EMAT Planning Technician Competencies

Ability to quickly learn and implement new concepts, skills, and cross train to support the needs of the team. Must demonstrate leadership, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

EMAT Immunization requirements



EMAT contractors require assessment of immunization status, completion of routinely recommended vaccine series, and booster doses in accordance with the Canadian Immunization Guide for Health Care Workers (HCW). In addition, HCW may require additional doses or booster doses of routine immunizations, or a change in the routine immunization schedule. Unimmunized or incompletely immunized HCW should receive routine immunizations as appropriate for age as well as vaccines recommended because of specific occupational risks. For EMAT contractors, this includes annual influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations.
