If you are a planner looking to support community land use planning, consider taking on this new challenge as a Planner with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. In this role, you will review municipal official plans and provide detailed analysis of land division proposals, including in unincorporated areas. You will provide leadership and advice to municipalities to enhance municipal operational effectiveness and improve decision-making to support a wide range of ministry/provincial policies and programs.

In this position, you will:

lead the review and analysis of complex land division proposals (e.g., consents and plans of subdivision), official plans, and official plan amendments, make recommendations, and prepare decision recommendations consistent with provincial land use planning policy and legislation identify problems/concerns with existing programs or legislation and recommend changes or improvements in program structure/delivery prepare, present, lead and participate in meetings, seminars, workshops and educational sessions on northern land use planning matters engage with northern land use planning stakeholders

Mandatory requirements



You require a valid Ontario Class driver's license to drive to municipal meetings, seminars, conferences

Technical knowledge and experience




You have:

land use planning experience with demonstrated knowledge of the Ontario planning system, related legislation, policies, and Ontario government priorities, policy development and decision-making processes leadership, organization and project management skills to participate in and/or lead multidisciplinary teams and multiple projects
###

Research and analytical skills




You can:

perform detailed analysis and work associated with the processing of consents and plans of subdivision in the unincorporated area (territory without municipal governance) evaluate strategies, identify issues, provide advice and make recommendations on planning issues research, analyze findings and issues, identify impacts, develop options, and make recommendations organize and undertake complex studies/analysis of planning issues and develop models and plans related to a range of planning activities assess/evaluate the implications and impact of proposed policy changes and identify policy gaps and issues identify and prioritize issues, and monitor financial performance/productivity

Communication and interpersonal skills




You have:

experience performing analyses and preparing reports using word processing, data management and spreadsheet software demonstrated written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate complex information to Senior Management, and the Minister collaborative skills to work with other ministries, municipal councils, Indigenous communities and officials, planning groups


You can represent the Ministry as an expert witness at various boards, Ontario Land Tribunal hearings, etc
