Our Team:
The Vale Smelter, located in Copper Cliff, is a critical operation in the production of Finished Nickel. The plant is comprised of over a dozen Operating, Maintenance, and technical departments working together to process Nickel Concentrate to supply the Vale Refineries.

The Opportunity:
We are currently seeking a Planner, Mechanical Maintenance to join our Smelter Matte Processing Department in Sudbury, Ontario. This is a permanent position.

As a Planner, Mechanical Maintenance you will be accountable for continuously improving the work team performance through the effective use of established processes and procedures. The successful candidate will be primarily accountable for Planning for an Industrial Mechanic crew at the Smelter Matte Processing plant. They will also be working as a relief supervisor as required.

Additionally, in this position you will:

• Work Monday to Friday, 8-hours day shift.
• Adhere to maintenance business processes as outlined in Maintenance Planning and Control (MPC) by using approved systems (SAP, Prometheus, etc.), tools, and standards.
• Establish and maintain work relationships with the various key plant stakeholders including superintendents, supervisors, other schedulers, planners, crew members, etc.
• Execute the Planning element of the process for all types of work orders - systematic and non-systematic maintenance. This includes shutdown (PMP) and external resource-related work.
• Coordinate and facilitate with the Scheduler to ensure all required planning/scheduling routines are followed.
• Ensure WO user statuses are properly maintained throughout the lifecycle of the work order.
• Ensure work orders are planned with an emphasis on safety and ready to be executed prior to the required end date as determined through the notification.
• Work within assigned budgets and escalate to management should a budget be exceeded.
• Identify and escalate all critical issues that threaten the successful execution of the work schedule for completion by Required End Date.
• Manage backlog to ensure work orders are planned based on priority and required end date.
• Monitor KPIs and actively strive toward plant targets.
• Coordinate contractor work/resources as required.

• Relief supervisor as necessary which requires:

• Holding the crew accountable for safe behavior, housekeeping, teamwork, and professionalism.
• Ensure planned work orders are closed with proper time confirmations completed.
• Work within budget, guidelines, and standards.
• Work with a crew to develop an interactive workplace environment.

About You

Education:

• Grade 12 completed or GED equivalency with equivalent experience is required.
• Red Seal Trade certification would be an asset.

Experience:

• Minimum 3 years of experience in a leadership/planning role.
• Experience with SAP, Microsoft Office, and related software products.
• Experience in the mining/construction environment in maintenance would be an asset.

Skills:

• Ability to prioritize assets maintenance to ensure plant reliability.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well with others in a team environment.
• Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
• Must be obsessed with safety and risk.
• Must demonstrate open and transparent dialogue in all aspects of work.
