What you will do:
Reporting to the Manager of Planning (or designate), the successful candidate will support the Municipality's land use planning and development review functions by providing professional planning advice, conducting research and analysis, and preparing reports and recommendations. Key duties include but are not limited to:
Preparing and presenting planning reports, studies, and recommendations on a wide range of land use and development matters.
Conducting background research and analysis on growth management, demographics, environmental impacts, and development-related issues.
Attending site visits, Council, Committee of Adjustment, and public meetings to provide professional planning advice and make presentations.
Preparing hearing materials for proceedings before the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT), as required.
Preparing zoning compliance letters, notices, maps, plans, drawings and other materials in support of planning applications.
Providing planning advice to applicants, residents, and stakeholders during pre-consultations and responding to inquiries.
Liaising with internal staff, Council, committees, external agencies, and the public to support streamlined service delivery.
Providing guidance and mentorship to junior planning staff, offering technical review and professional support.
Maintaining current knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Planning Act, Municipal Act, Development Charges Act, and Provincial Policy Statement.
What the ideal candidate will possess:
Post-secondary diploma or degree in Planning or a related field.
Minimum three (3) years of relevant planning experience in a municipal or private sector setting.
Current membership, or eligibility for membership, with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI); working toward or holding the Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation is preferred.
Experience with AutoCAD and GIS considered an asset.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare professional reports and presentations.
Knowledge of planning legislation, provincial policies, and municipal procedures.
Valid Class "G" Ontario driver's licence.
Strong organizational, research, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Responsible, as an employee, for health & safety under the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA). This includes, but is not limited to:
Working safely within the law and safe work practices/procedures (understanding and following standard operating procedures, wearing personal protective equipment, using MSDS information, ensuring all guards are in place, when applicable)
Immediately reporting unsafe acts, conditions, or contraventions of the OHSA to a supervisor, the JHSC, or a Health & Safety representative.
What we will require:
A Police Criminal Record Check satisfactory to the Municipality
Proof of your current and valid certificate(s), licenses and/or educational qualifications, if applicable
Three valid references for a background check
