JOB TYPE:

SALARY RANGE:

$28 - $38 Hourly (Starting compensation with room for growth)

THE ROLE:

The Pipelayer is responsible for assisting with and performing a variety of labour-intensive tasks related to the installation of underground utility systems, including storm drains, sanitary sewers, and water mains. This role involves preparing the worksite, handling and positioning heavy pipes, ensuring proper alignment and sealing, and supporting the overall efficiency of the construction crew. With a focus on safety, quality, and teamwork, the Pipelayer plays a key role in delivering essential infrastructure projects that support growing communities.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:


Responsibilities and Duties



Installing underground pipes, manholes and hydrants needed by infrastructure projects. Pipes may be made of PVC, steel, clay, cast iron or concrete. Pipes are for electrical, water supply, sewerage and storm water Performs all installations with exceptional workmanship Cut and bevel pipe ends (PVC and Ductile Iron) Assemble and install shoring or trench cages in excavations as required Ensure that all open excavations, manholes, and equipment are adequately delineated and barricaded Complete work tasks within the trench to ensure pipe is laid to the proposed grade and alignment Monitor granular backfilling and compaction of the pipe to ensure proper support Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools Complete required paperwork, reporting, and other documentation Complete tasks similar in capabilities as directed by supervisor

Working Conditions



Work indoors and outdoors in rural and urban areas Working on uneven ground in diverse weather conditions Exposure to asphalt and concrete dust Working around and in close proximity to heavy equipment

Personal Management



Lift and carry tools, equipment, supplies and materials (<1-53-kg) at the work site or shop (<5 to 200 meters) Walk, stand, crouch and bend for long periods throughout the day Stand at work site on diverse terrain

Training and Competency Requirements



Level 1:

In an accredited program or acquired the work experience equivalent (commonly 2080 hours).

Level 2:

Successfully completed and showcased expertise in level 1 duties and responsibilities; successfully completed an accredited program or acquired the work experience equivalent (commonly 4160 hours).

Level 3:

Successfully completed and showcased expertise in level 2 duties and responsibilities; successfully completed an accredited program or acquired the work experience equivalent (commonly 6240 hours).

Level 4:

Successfully completed and showcased expertise in level 3 duties and responsibilities; successfully completed an accredited program or acquired the work experience equivalent (commonly 10,400 hours).

The following industry recognized certificates are an asset and in addition to experience, will support career progression in the role of a Pipelayer:

Able to listen, communicate and take direction Able to work individually and as a team Flexible to work in diverse departments with different crews Detail orientated Committed to safety; reflected in practice and experience Strong interpersonal skills with values aligning to those of Acres Thorough knowledge of pipe types and fittings Strong understanding in shoring requirements for excavations Experience in civil construction and have installed piping materials such as HDPE, ductile iron, PVC, CSP as well as stainless steel custom piping
