In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority ( Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Within the context of a multi-disciplinary plan for the child and family, provides diagnostic and remedial physiotherapy services to the child with physical disabilities to maintain and improve joint range of motion, strength, endurance, coordination, mobility, and physical independence through exercise, handling, use of adaptive equipment and therapeutic modalities. May provide work direction to Physical Medicine Assistants and other caregivers.

Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Vancouver Island Health Authority in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training And Experience

  • Baccalaureate degree or diploma in Physiotherapy or degree in Rehabilitation.
  • Minimum one year experience in pediatric physiotherapy, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current license to practice in British Columbia from the College of Physical Therapists of BC.
  • Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Physiotherapists (CPA).
  • Valid Class 5 vehicle license.
Skills And Abilities
  • Demonstrated clinical competency in the field of physiotherapy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with families, young people, and other professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to train and monitor assistants, family members, and other caregivers in carrying out services to the child, which are the responsibility of the physiotherapist.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize time and responsibilities and to work independently.
  • Demonstrated/referenced interpersonal and team skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of Physiotherapy in family-centered approach to care.
  • Physically and emotionally able to perform the duties of the position.
