About the Opportunity

The Physiotherapist reports to the OAC/Total Joint Manager and assesses, diagnoses and treats patients in a tertiary care setting who present with actual or potential impairment, pain, functional limitations or disabilities. Physiotherapy assessment involves obtaining a detailed medical history, performing specific and standardized tests and evaluation procedures to determine a physical diagnosis. Holistic treatment programs are developed using exercises, education, and manual, mechanical, electrical and hydrotherapy techniques to assist the patient in regaining and/or maintaining an optimal level of function.

The Physiotherapist is educated and communicates with other health disciplines, the general public, family members and caregivers in regard to health promotion, physiotherapy treatment and patient management. This position provides supervision and evaluation of physiotherapy students and supervision of physiotherapy assistants and aides.

As a member of a clinical team, the Physiotherapist collaborates with colleagues to determine team goals and objectives, participates in the evaluation of team effectiveness, and solves problems and shares responsibilities.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Bachelor\'s degree or entry level master program in Physiotherapy from an accredited university
  • Membership with the Nova Scotia College or Physiotherapists (Provincial licensing body)
  • Advanced training certificate in bariatric care for Health care providers required(i.e. Obesity Canada Calibre Course, Certified Bariatric Educator, or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3 years experience as licensed Physiotherapist
  • Experience working with Chronic disease management
  • Computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office, Power point, word, etc.)
  • Willing to take relevant training courses for clinic program delivery
  • Willing to deliver group and individual education classes with interprofessional team.
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to the changing needs of the service and the program/facility
  • Computer skills (statistics input, word processing, Outlook)
  • Annual Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation certification (BCLS)
  • WHMIS training and certification
  • Additional courses/education/training in many specialized areas or practice, e.g. cardio-respiratory techniques, acupuncture, stroke rehabilitation, manual therapy, balance training, etc.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
  • Permanent, Full-Time Position; 75 Hours Bi-weekly
  • The temporary location of the Obesity Clinic is the Sterling Health Center in Glace Bay
  • Travel to other sites is required and must have access to a reliable vehicle
Compensation and Incentives

$33.97 - $42.90 Hourly
