POSITION SUMMARY:
The Physiotherapist in the Mental Health and Addiction Inpatient setting at SJHH West 5th Campus plays a major role in patient\xe2\x80\x99s holistic recovery and quality of life. PT\xe2\x80\x99s optimize patient mobility and function and collaboratively work with the team to optimize safe discharge plans. The PT supports his/her profession by advocating for or contributing themselves to an environment where ongoing learning, evidence-based practice, quality improvement and research are practiced and supported.
A Physiotherapist is a health care professional who works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams who serve patients recovering from a mental illness, with the aim to prevent or alleviate functional problems arising from physical, psychological and/or social origins. Prevention and treatment of an impairment, disability or handicap is accomplished through the use of physical assessment, education and treatment which are based on ongoing clinical research. The goal of physiotherapy intervention is to promote quality of life, self-responsibility and independence.
The Physiotherapist in this setting works independently with minimal supervision. The Physiotherapist completes initial and ongoing assessments, creates treatment plans, assigns and supervises therapeutic interventions to Rehabilitation Assistants. Extensive experience on a broad range of patient needs is necessary in this practice setting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-Bachelor\'s Degree in Physiotherapy required; Master\'s Degree in Physiotherapy preferred
-Current Registration in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario required
-Membership in the Canadian and Ontario Physiotherapy Associations preferred
-Hospital experience preferred
-Basic computer skills for word processing and access to information
-Excellent organizational and time management skills
-Proven ability to function well within an interdisciplinary team environment
-Able to work under pressure, prioritize workload and meet deadlines
-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
-Exceptional analytical thinking and creative problem solving skills
