Within Cancer Care Alberta (CCA), Supportive Care services are provided by a team of rehabilitation and psychosocial health care professionals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of those affected by cancer by providing expert care from the time of cancer diagnosis through treatment and beyond. CCA teams are leaders in cancer prevention, treatment, survivorship, and palliative care. The Rehabilitation Oncology (RO) team's occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech language pathologists collaborate closely and with other health care professionals to develop and offer services and patient education materials. The team is working on building capacity locally and provincially to ensure timely and effective patient care. The RO team located out of the Cross Cancer Institute is looking for a dynamic, flexible, and self-directed team player to join our team in a permanent 0.4 FTE role. Under general supervision of the Manager, Supportive Care, North, PT position is responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients referred to program, development, implementation, and evaluation of individual treatment programs according to best practice standards. Care is provided in various formats: 1:1, groups, in-person and via virtual care. The PT is also a participant in the development of patient educational material, rounds and working groups, case consultation, mentorship of students and staff, triage processes, and quality improvement/ research initiatives. This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting/ transferring of patients and equipment. Applicants for this part-time position should have the availability to work between Monday-Friday. The caseload includes outpatients and cross coverage to inpatients, virtual care and groups. Caseload and schedule for positions is based on operational requirements.
Description:
As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.
