Your Opportunity:

This is an exciting clinical opportunity within the Allied Health Community, primarily supporting the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Prehabilitation team. Prehabilitation is a proactive, pre-surgical intervention designed to enhance a patient's physical and mental condition before surgery. The goal is to improve current function and optimize postoperative outcomes by preparing patients both physically and emotionally. Rather than passively waiting, Albertans can actively engage in their health during the wait period. Prehabilitation uses this time to prevent deconditioning and promote positive health behavior changes.

Patients are supported in improving mobility, nutrition, emotional readiness, and social supports. The program also focuses on pain control, chronic disease management, and addressing modifiable risk factors such as weight, smoking, and inactivity. This unique role will have leadership support from provincial domains & local clinical leaders and includes the opportunity to work in other Allied Health Community Teams for delegated clients or projects as needed. It's a chance to contribute to a growing area of healthcare that emphasizes prevention, patient empowerment, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Working with a dynamic team, you'll help patients build resilience and confidence, leading to better surgical outcomes and smoother recovery.

Description:

As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care.

The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students.
