Hours of Work:

24 hours Bi-weekly (8 hour shifts)

Qualifications:

Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent from a recognized school of Physiotherapy Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Nova Scotia One to two years of relevant work experience Long Term Care experience is considered an asset Complex geriatric management experience considered an asset Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Physiotherapy and eligibility for membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association Knowledge of the following: Medical Terminology, Falls Prevention Methods / Risk Management Procedures, Proper Body Mechanics, Therapy and Counselling, Principles of geriatric restorative care, Customer and Personal Service, Neurologic, orthopedic, cardio and respiratory treatment Must have excellent Communication, interpersonal, problem solving and time management and judgement and decision making skills

Major Responsibilities:

Assesses resident needs in a physiotherapy context (e.g. mobility equipment, assistance, restorative potentials) Provides one on one therapeutic physiotherapy treatment to residents Designs physiotherapy treatment programs for Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) to implement/ carry out and monitors resident progress in these programs Collaborates with nursing team to plan interventions for residents Instructs and educates internal stakeholders (e.g. mobility, equipment, care needs) Maintains physiotherapy gym (e.g. equipment, schedules, files, funding requests)
