Position Summary




Therapy services at the BC Centre for Ability includes the Early Intervention Therapy program which provides physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology and social work services for over 1000 children and their families. Services are provided in the child's natural environments, as well as through clinic and group opportunities, and focus on helping the child become successful in their daily routines and participation in home and community life. Works with interdisciplinary teams to provide therapy services to children within the context of their family and community environments. Effective collaboration, communication and organizational skills will be paramount for this position. Services will be delivered in family homes, in clinic, in community settings and by virtual platforms. Departmental assignments are subject to operational and departmental needs.

Responsibilities

Assess motor abilities and how they impact movement, play and participation in a variety of environments Use a coaching approach with families and team members to educate and implement therapeutic programs based on family goals Use Evidence Based Practice and Family Centered Practice to guide clinical reasoning Prescribe and assist families to obtain equipment to optimize participation Consult to caregivers, including family, preschools, daycares and schools Participate in staff meetings, case reviews, medical liaison meetings, and in-services. Maintain up to date records that meet agency and regulatory body requirements Collaborate with interdisciplinary team and community partners Undertake additional responsibilities as directed

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience

Master's degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy Previous experience working in pediatrics is preferred Training in Motivational Interviewing and/or Brief Action Planning is an asset

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Practices physiotherapy in accordance with the International Classification of Function and F-words of childhood development with a commitment to inclusive practice and family centered care Strong collaborator who develops effective working relationships with others Proven ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to adapt to change and embrace new technology Competency using a virtual platform, electronic client record system and word processing software

Working Conditions & Provisos

Registration with CHCPBC (includes Criminal Record Check) Valid BC driver's license with reliable use of a car for work with business insurance Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
