Job Description


The successful candidate will be working primarily in our gait lab seeing clients from any clinic that is part of the Child Development team. The physiotherapist will also see clients who have neuromotor disorders such as cerebral palsy who are up to the age of 18 years through our Neuromotor program. In the gait lab, you will provide clinical expertise for direction and accomplishment of data acquisition, interpretation, and report generation for clients undergoing motion analysis procedures. The physiotherapist will be working primarily with the gait engineer, orthopedic physicians, other physiotherapists and other colleagues. The Child Development program sees clients with complex needs, services can include assessment, diagnosis, consultation and intervention from various disciplines including medicine, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, OT/PT Assistants, psychology, social work and speech-language pathology. The disciplines work in collaboration with our community partners to provide a continuum of care. This is a fast paced, dynamic work environment requiring the candidate to work independently as well as collaboratively with other professionals involved in the client and family\xe2\x80\x99s care. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation in an efficient and timely manner. While providing education, guidance and support to clients and family members.
  • Conduct a 3D gait assessment in partnership with the gait engineer, including motion capture and EMG data acquisition.
  • Perform a comprehensive physiotherapist assessment (subjective and physical assessment), including the use of outcome measures, with clients undergoing a 3D gait assessment.
  • Create a gait report, analyzing the information gathered from the 3D gait assessment and physiotherapy assessment.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary clinical gait rounds to discuss the clinical findings, including the gait report, in order to formulate comprehensive client and family recommendations.
  • Participate with quality assurance and management activities in order to optimize data acquisition within the 3D gait lab.
  • Partner with the gait engineer in the creation of procedures and practices in order to optimize the accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of data acquisition within the gait lab.
  • Explore and implement the criteria required to accredit the lab with the Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Society (GCMAS).
  • Engage in knowledge translation activities within Holland Bloorview and with community partners to share expertise in 3D gait analysis.
  • Partner with clients and families to formulate and implement individualized client-centered goals with focused, targeted and measurable outcomes.
  • Provide client care in collaboration with the client/family to plan, implement and evaluate care.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Masters degree in Physiotherapy (or Bachelor degree in Physiotherapy plus other Masters)
  • Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
  • Membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and/or the Ontario Physiotherapy Association is an asset.
  • Preferred to have gait experience, including ability to perform and interpret results of kinematic, kinetic, fine wire EMG, surface EMG, physical assessment and other areas pertinent to gait analysis
  • Knowledge of pathokinesiology and walking disorders in patients with musculoskeletal and neuromuscular diagnosis
  • Experience with children with cerebral palsy or neuromotor conditions an asset
  • Knowledge of and skills in physical therapy assessment and treatment of children and youth with a variety of conditions
  • Knowledge of and experience with physical therapy assessment techniques, therapeutic skills, modalities and their applications.
  • Experience with current outcome measures (i.e. Canadian Occupational Performance Measure, Goal Attainment Scaling, and GMFM)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage fluctuating clinical responsibilities effectively and efficiently
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families and members of the interprofessional care team
  • Proven ability to independently and collaboratively as a member of an interprofessional team is essential
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development
  • Status appointment in the Department of Physical Therapy at University of Toronto is an asset
