The Physician Assistant (PA) functions as an unregulated physician extender who integrates the CanMEDS (2015) roles of medical expert, communicator, collaborator, leader, health advocates, scholar and professional to provide optimal, ethical and patient-centered medical care. The physician assistant works under the direct and indirect supervision of a physician to provide safe, timely and effective care to patients in the Clinics including (but not limited to) the specialties of Primary Care, Geriatrics, and Gynaecology with a defined patient population.
The PA uses knowledge, skill and judgement and established competencies in a clinical area to provide assessment and treatment to patients as delegated by the supervising physician. The PA works as part of the interprofessional team in close collaboration with all team members to provide holistic and patient-centered care.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Collaborate with supervising physician to provide high-quality patient care under direct orders or medical directives.
Build professional rapport and maintain ethical, therapeutic relationships with patients, families, and caregivers.
Gather and synthesize relevant patient information from multiple sources, including healthcare professionals.
Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop appropriate clinical treatment plans.
Modify care plans collaboratively based on ongoing assessment and patient needs.
Demonstrate proficiency in relevant diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Corporate Responsibilities:
Participate in all mandatory training requirements and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Schroeder Ambulatory Centre Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines
Education, Skills, & Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program (Canada or U.S.).
Certified by the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC); successful completion of the Entry to Practice Exam required.
Member in good standing with the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA).
BCLS certification required; ACLS is considered an asset.
Demonstrated ability to implement medical directives and perform in high-pressure clinical environments.
Strong organizational, time management, and critical thinking skills.
Proficiency with electronic health records and relevant clinical software.
Effective communicator and team player with proven leadership capabilities.
Committed to a culture of patient and staff safety, with a focus on continuous quality improvement.
Satisfactory criminal record/vulnerable sector check and up-to-date immunization and TB documentation.
Ability to work flexible hours
