Physician Assistant




The Physician Assistant (PA) plays a critical role in advancing the health, safety, and well-being of all personnel at Cote Gold, an open-pit mining operation. As a key member of the Occupational Health team, the PA provides comprehensive primary and emergency medical care, conducts occupational health assessments, and supports health promotion initiatives. This role also ensures compliance with regulatory standards in a remote, industrial setting, contributing to a safe and resilient workforce.

Key Responsibilities




Area 1:


Provision and continuous improvement of Emergency Medical Care & Occupational Health services.

Provide primary, urgent, and emergency medical care to employees and contractors at the Health Centre on-site. Triage and stabilize patients until medical evacuation or definitive care is available. Maintain medical equipment, supplies, and medications in a state of readiness. Coordinate with local hospitals and emergency services as required. Conduct pre-placement, periodic, and fitness-for-duty medical evaluations Conduct Similar Exposure Group (SEG) assessments for all employees. Collaborate with the Superintendent & Occupational Health Nurse to implement health education and wellness initiatives. Participate in seasonal health campaigns and site-wide wellness programs.

Area 2:


Return-to-work and case management.

Assist in managing medical follow-ups, work restrictions, and return-to-work planning. Maintain accurate, confidential medical records in compliance with privacy legislation. Liaise with Human Resources and supervisors to support employee reintegration. Liaise with Supervisors and Contractors to provide guidance on care plans and follow-up assessments. Provide advice and guidance on accessing off-site allied health services.

Area 3:


Regulatory Compliance and Documentation.

Ensure all documentation meets provincial and federal health, safety, and privacy standards. Support WSIB reporting and compliance with occupational health regulations. Maintain all certifications and remain in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Area 4:


Interdisciplinary Collaboration.

Work closely with the Occupational Health Nurse, Emergency Response Team, Safety, HR, and site leadership. Provide medical insight during incident investigations and safety reviews. Liaise with the Medical Director and Medical Advisors on patient care that are beyond the scope of the approved Medical Directives. Work collaboratively with the Superintendent, Occupational Health Nurse, Emergency Response Team and Medical Leadership on continuing medical education initiatives.

Scope of Responsibility & Complexity



Work is technical and complex and involves non-routine and advanced technical assignments. Work is performed under limited direction according to broad guidelines. Problem resolution involves using judgment to adapt and apply procedures to address and resolve unusual problem situations. Work involves moderate exposure to disagreeable conditions. Moderate exposure to undesirable or disagreeable environmental characteristics. Moderate exposure to circumstances involving aggressive or abusive situations. May require safety equipment or precautions, as there could be potential health and safety risks.



Qualifications

Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves




minimum qualifications, formal education, certifications or equivalents

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program, such as those offers by the Canadian Armed Forces, the Ontario Physician Assistant Integration Program or equivalent programs based in the United States. Certified by the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC). Registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Holds current certifications in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and International Trauma Life Support.


Work experience - Nature & Length

Minimum 3 years of experience in occupational health, emergency medicine or remove/industrial setting. Experience in mining, construction or heavy industry is an asset.

Additional qualifications - Competency requirements

Strong clinical assessment and critical decision-making skills. Ability to work independently in a remote, fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficient in EMR systems and Microsoft Office. Culturally competent and able to engage with a diverse workforce. Committed to promoting a safety-first culture.

Working Environment



Some physical effort or considerable sensory demand. Sitting, standing and/or constant movement over modest periods of time (i.e. less than half the workday) without choice of action. Occasional lifting of moderately heavy objects causing modest fatigue. F

requent periods of visual or auditory concentration without choice of action.
Travel may be required at 20-60%.
