Duties

As Physical Security Officer you will be relied on to provide reception services, visitor management and access control to keep employees, information, and assets safe. You will provide leadership, advice, and vision in the development of the organization\xe2\x80\x99s Administrative Investigation program and conduct review for cause and resolution of doubt investigations and interviews in accordance with the Treasury Board Secretariat Standard on Security Screening.

Intent of the process

The initial intent of this process is to offer two indeterminate positions.

A pool of qualified persons resulting from this process may be created and may be used to fill similar positions with linguistic profiles (english essential, bilingual imperative BBB/BBB, bilingual imperative CBC/CBC, bilingual non imperative BBB/BBB, bilingual non imperative CBC/CBC) as well as tenures (indeterminate, deployment, acting, assignment, secondment, specified period) which may vary according to the position being staffed.

This pool may be used to staff similar positions in other organizations within the core public administration (http://www.psc-cfp.gc.ca/plcy-pltq/rfli-lirf/index-eng.htm).

A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience. Degree equivalency Experience:
Experience providing customer service, based on in person interactions.

Asset Criteria

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in Criminology, Emergency Management, Security Management, Crime Prevention, or other related discipline. Degree equivalency Experience:
Experience working in a security related field
Organizational Needs:
  • Treasury Board Secretariat employees affected by workforce adjustment may be appointed before persons employed by other government organizations;
  • In support of achieving a diverse workforce, consideration may be given to candidates self-declare as belonging to one of the following Employment Equity groups: Aboriginal peoples, persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities, and women.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Work rotational shifts, between the hours of 08h00 and 18h00 Monday to Friday
  • Required to work onsite in the office
  • Willing and able to work overtime on short notice
  • May be required to be on-call after-hours and carry a duty phone

Conditions of employment


Secret security clearance - A valid secret security clearance is a condition of employment required for an appointment at the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS). Failure to obtain this security clearance means either the candidate will not receive a job offer or the conditional offer will be rendered null and void. A thorough security clearance process will be applied to all candidates considered for an appointment; this process includes inquiries, verifications and assessments regarding matters such as, but not limited to:

  • criminal record checks
  • reference checks
  • previous employment
  • open source checks
  • credit/financial status

For a secret security clearance, the verification of background information over a period of 10 years is typically required. Many of the verifications require support from third parties whose timelines are outside of TBS\xe2\x80\x99s control. Overall, the process may take several weeks or months to complete.
