Your Opportunity:

At the Grande Prairie Cancer Center Pharmacy, Technicians practice to their full scope and perform all aspects of drug distribution services to provide safe and quality patient care. Pharmacy Technician dispensing related responsibilities include triage, preparation, repackaging and final product checking of sterile and non-sterile products, individual patient prescriptions. Other duties include guiding and assisting with the training and orientation of staff and students; providing clinical support through obtaining information to facilitate medication reconciliation activities and clarifying discrepancies, and/or collecting and organizing information to support the provision of direct patient care; participating in special projects and programs as assigned; maintaining department records and statistics and preparing reports as required. It is important to build and maintain successful interactive relationships with all members of the healthcare team, including communicating with nursing staff to clarify orders and requests, triaging drug information questions and problem- solving distribution issues. Technicians must demonstrate a high standard of performance through the completion of internal validation programs that assess proficiency in identified tasks such as aseptic techniques and final product checking. The pharmacy supports remote drug delivery to Peace River is live on the provincial Connect Care electronic patient care system. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician. Additional Required Qualifications:

Hazardous sterile compounding skills including current certification status is highly desired. Authorized chemotherapy checking status will also be viewed favorably. Preferred Qualifications:

6 months or more recent experience in a retail Pharmacy setting and/or sterile compounding experience. Membership and involvement in Pharmacy professional organization(s) such as CAPHO, PTSA, CAPT, ACP, CSHP and PEBC. Patient focus is a must, including a willingness to interact with patients on a daily basis.
