The Pharmacy Assistant plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of the pharmacy by assisting in the preparation and dispensing of prescriptions, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring exceptional customer service. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. The Pharmacy Assistant collaborates closely with pharmacists, technicians, and other staff to ensure the smooth operation of both front and back-of-house functions, while providing friendly and knowledgeable support to patients.
Duties include preparing compliance packaging (e.g., bubble packs), managing inventory and ordering supplies, processing transactions, and handling patient inquiries with professionalism. Experience with pharmacy software systems such as Kroll, PacMed, or PacVision is considered an asset. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, customer-focused, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
Input and fill prescriptions accurately.
Prepare and fill compliance packaging (e.g., bubble packs).
Assist with inventory control, including placing and receiving orders.
Assist patients and direct questions to appropriate staff.
Answer phones using proper identifiers and handle patient inquiries.
Operate a cash register and process cash, cheque, credit card, and charge transactions.
Accurately file prescriptions and other confidential documentation.
Work effectively as part of a pharmacy team and assist other staff members as needed.
Multi-task and recognize when additional help is required.
Work independently and manage tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Applicant Qualification Requirements
Previous experience in a community or retail pharmacy setting.
Experience inputting, filling, and preparing prescriptions and compliance packaging.
Familiarity with PacMed and PacVision systems (asset).
Experience working with pharmacy software programs; knowledge of Kroll is an asset.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
High degree of initiative, organizational skills, and time management ability.
Ability to remain composed and effective in a fast-paced work environment.
Completion of a pharmacy assistant or technician certification program (asset).
