Pharmacy Assistant

Position Summary



The Pharmacy Assistant plays a key role in supporting the pharmacist with the technical aspects of prescription dispensing, customer service, and the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy. This role is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, and a passion for helping others in a healthcare setting.

Key Responsibilities



Greet customers promptly and professionally Collect and confirm prescription information as per pharmacy standards Manage customer expectations and wait times effectively Refer all clinical or therapeutic questions to the pharmacist Locate and cash out prescriptions and over-the-counter items Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold privacy regulations

Administrative Duties



Receive and process new and refill prescriptions according to standard procedures Prepare and place pharmacy supply orders (excluding narcotics and controlled substances) Handle third-party insurance billing and resolve claim rejections when possible Answer phone calls and triage as necessary Manage faxed prescription requests and documentation Assist in coordinating callbacks and patient follow-ups Ensure accurate record-keeping and filing

Prescription Workflow



Assist with data entry for new prescriptions and refills Select, count, label, and package medications according to pharmacy guidelines Maintain proper documentation and accurate patient profiles in pharmacy software Support the pharmacist in providing high-quality patient care

Qualifications and Skills



High School Diploma required Completion of a Pharmacy Assistant training program is preferred Previous experience in a community pharmacy is an asset Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with professionalism and empathy Proficiency with pharmacy software systems (experience with Propel Rx is an asset)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.60-$24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 - 40 per week
