What the job entails (overview)

Pharmacy Assistant

position will be responsible for providing specialized pharmaceutical care to patients receiving specialty medications, including biologics and to ensure safe and effective therapy for patients with complex medical conditions.



Where you'll be focusing (your day to day):



Medication Order Processing: Assist in processing specialty medication orders, including verifying prescription details, patient information, and insurance coverage. Prior Authorization Assistance: Collaborate with pharmacists and healthcare providers to help obtain prior authorizations for specialty medications, ensuring patients have timely access to their prescribed treatments. Patient Communication: Communicate with patients to answer inquiries, book appointments and provide exceptional customer service. Billing and Reimbursement Support: Assist with insurance claims processing and billing tasks related to specialty medications, ensuring accurate documentation for reimbursement. Medication Adherence Support: Work closely with patients to promote medication adherence through timely refill reminders and educational materials. Pharmacy Software Utilization: Utilize pharmacy software systems for data entry, prescription processing, and patient record management. Collaborative Teamwork: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with pharmacists, clinical pharmacists and pharmacy staff at store level. Crossover duties at out Compliance Packaging Centre. Participate in the development and action of yearly competency performance work plan(s) and development action plan(s).

What you will need (Requirements):



Grade 12 education or acceptable combination of experience and education. Pass the Calgary Co-op Pharmacy Assistant test. Completed a recognized Pharmacy Assistant Program (preferred) Experience working in Specialty pharmacy (preferred) Proficiency and competence with Microsoft Office applications Prior experience in a specialty pharmacy or healthcare setting dealing with complex medications is an advantage Excellent communication and customer service skills to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple tasks efficiently Written communication skills, including the ability to write in a clear and concise manner to peers, managers, and customers. Should have a good understanding of word, excel and PowerPoint applications
