We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting the pharmacy operations by assisting pharmacists in providing exceptional patient care. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology and experience in a hospital or pharmacy setting, ensuring that medication administration is handled efficiently and accurately.
Duties
As a Pharmacy Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
Assisting pharmacists with the preparation and dispensing of medications
Providing excellent patient care by addressing inquiries and offering guidance on medication usage
Maintaining accurate records of prescriptions and patient information
Managing inventory levels, including ordering and restocking medications
Ensuring compliance with all safety and health regulations within the pharmacy environment
Utilizing medical terminology to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals and patients
Supporting the overall operations of the pharmacy, including administrative tasks as needed.
Greet customers, book appointments, and answer basic questions
Answer phones, organize faxes and operate cash register
Input customer and prescription information using Kroll software
Count pills, labels bottles and compounds medications as directed
Take and track inventory, restock when needed
Place orders for additional drugs as directed by the pharmacist
Assist in organizing and shelving medicine
Prepare billing information for medications
Frequently clean, sanitize the workspace area both behind the counter and outside area
Experience
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
Previous experience as a Pharmacy Assistant or in a similar role within a hospital or pharmacy setting for at least 1 year
Knowledge of medication administration processes and protocols
Familiarity with medical terminology relevant to pharmaceuticals
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy in medication dispensing
Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients and healthcare team members

Requirements and Qualifications
A diploma/certification in pharmacy assistant is an asset
Computer literate and proficient in using software, Kroll
Previous experience working in a pharmacy will be preferred
Excellent customer service skills
Experience using POS systems
Available to work flexible hours on weekdays and weekends
