As a member of the Pharmacy Operations team, reporting to the Director, Pharmacy Services the full-time, permanent Pharmacist will be responsible for coordinating the provision of drug information services to clinicians (pharmacists, physicians, nurses and other members on the inter-professional team) both across CAMH and externally. You will conduct and analyze studies for the purpose of evaluating drug use, usage and medication trends and will coordinate changes to medication use in accordance with best standards of practice.
Your role will include a wide range of responsibilities including the evaluation and provision of drug information to patients and health care professionals. You will maintain the currency of print and online educational resources for patients and health care professionals. You will assist in managing drug shortages, by identifying alternative treatments and developing protocols for restrictive use. You will conduct research, analyze and maintain information related to current medication utilization trends and determine best practices to ensure appropriate and cost effective drug uses. The Pharmacist will be the lead on Medication Use and Evaluation subcommittee (and serve as the secretary of Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee), which reviews medication usage trends and will prepare drug use evaluation studies to standardize drug formulary at CAMH. You will monitor, assess clinical significance of, and disseminate (where applicable), medication safety alerts communicated by regulatory bodies, drug manufacturers and other sources. Other duties assigned as required. You will perform work in accordance with applicable revisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, professional standards and guidelines, and CAMH corporate and departmental Policies and Procedures. Job Requirements
You are registered with the Ontario College of Pharmacists as a Part A Pharmacist. Experience in a mental health setting, experience in a hospital setting, and completion of an accredited Hospital Pharmacy Residency program are all considered valuable assets. Experience in conducting critical appraisals of literature involving evidence based and pharmacoeconomic reviews is an asset along with the skills to evaluate drug literature from an evidence-based perspective. Ability to use information systems and online search tools to obtain vital information in a timely manner is essential. Must have the ability to maintain information systems and records. You will have knowledge of computerized unit dose drug distribution system and in-depth knowledge of pharmacy operations and medication-use processes. Understanding of the clinical and distributive activities associated with medication use is required as is knowledge of medication safety risk in health care. Analytical skills are required including the ability to assess and take responsibility for patient drug-related needs to offer value-added solutions. The successful candidate must also possess excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills to work effectively with the patient population. The successful candidate must have demonstrated organizational skills as well as problem recognition and problem solving skills. Candidates will possess the ability for self-directed learning and working. Candidates require the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
