POSITION SUMMARY
The Pharmacy Department at CHEO operates on a 24 hour basis, 7 days a week, every day of the year. Pharmacists need to be available to work any shifts including weekends, evenings and overnights.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for the safe, accurate and efficient dispensing of medications
Supervises all work performed by the pharmacy assistants and technicians which includes dispensing of medications, sterile and bulk manufacturing, calculations, etc
Maintains clinical expertise in at least one area of clinical pharmacy practice.
Provides drug information to physicians, nurses and other members of the health care team, as well as to patients
Maintains work areas in a clean and orderly fashion
Rotates through dispensary, sterile manufacturing and clinical staff pharmacists' positions
Shares evening, week-end and overnight coverage
Shares the responsibility of training and/or orienting of new personnel with respect to drug distribution and service aspects of his/her designated area
Performs the duties of a preceptor for pharmacy students and interns
Contributes and/or assists in the organization of departmental publications and presentations
Maintains knowledge of current hospital and pharmacy policies and ensures compliance
Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of pharmacy programs and services
Participates in departmental Quality Assurance programs, drug utilization reviews, workload measurements
Undertakes special projects as assigned
Completes professional activities on a daily basis
Initiates and/or completes medication incident reports as required
Participates on hospital or departmental committees as assigned
Attends and participates in departmental and hospital meetings such as pharmacist meeting, Staff Meeting, Education seminars
Maintains professional conduct and standards in all aspects of his/her work and when interacting with hospital staff and the public
Cover Kid Care Pharmacy as required
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy
QUALIFICATIONS:
Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential)
Graduate of a Pharmacy degree from a recognized university (Essential)
Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy by The Ontario College of Pharmacist (Essential)
Minimum of two (2) years experience as a Hospital Pharmacist (Preferred)
Bilingual (English/ French) (Preferred)
Completion of a hospital pharmacy residency program at a recognized Canadian teaching hospital and /or at least five (5) years experience in hospital (Preferred)
