Job Summary
The Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing and compounding medications (sterile and/or non-sterile) according to prescriptions and regulatory guidelines, collaborating with physicians/nurse practitioners/clinics, and contributing to quality assurance and workflow optimisation.
Key Responsibilities
Review, interpret and verify prescriptions for accuracy, appropriateness, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Adhere to professional standards including registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP), licensing, continuing education and scope of practice.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, training of staff and potentially lead or mentor the compounding team.
Dispense and check prescriptions
accurately, ensuring clinical appropriateness and compliance with OCP standards.
Provide
patient counselling
on prescription and over-the-counter medications, including side effects, dosage, and proper use.
Conduct
Medication Reviews (MedsCheck, CMRs)
and provide follow-up care as needed.
Administer
vaccinations and injections
(as authorized by OCP).
Support
minor ailments prescribing
and other expanded scope services.
Ensure all
documentation and record-keeping
is completed accurately and on time.
Supervise and support pharmacy assistants and technicians to ensure smooth workflow.
Maintain
inventory accuracy
and handle orders, returns, and expired products according to policy.
Communicate with prescribers and clinics to resolve drug therapy problems and support continuity of care.
Participate in
quality improvement
, audits, and training initiatives within the pharmacy.
Qualifications
Licensed and in good standing with the
Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP)
.
Bachelor or Doctor of Pharmacy (BScPhm or PharmD).
Injection certification (mandatory); CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
Experience in compounding or specialty pharmacy an asset (training will be provided).
Strong clinical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Positive, adaptable attitude and passion for continuous improvement.
Proficiency with
Kroll
or similar pharmacy management software.
