Your Opportunity:
Under the direction of the Pharmacy Alberta, Parenteral Standards and Safety Manager, this pharmacist plays a vital role in supporting safe medication administration and standardization across all four Provincial Health Agencies. The position focuses on developing, maintaining, and optimizing drug administration resources, with a primary emphasis on smart infusion pump drug libraries while also supporting provincial safety initiatives. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining standardized drug libraries that align with best practices, clinical guidelines, and provincial standards; ensuring compliance with ISMP recommendations for IV infusion therapy where applicable, implementing risk mitigation strategies to prevent infusion-related errors, monitoring infusion pump compliance reports, analyzing infusion data for trends and errors, and identifying opportunities for improvement. This role requires collaboration and coordination with Clinical Engineering, Middleware, and nursing teams to ensure seamless rollout of drug library updates. Additionally, the pharmacist participates in interdisciplinary committees, engages with provincial working partners to support infusion safety and technology optimization, and precepts students and residents, offering mentorship on smart infusion pump practices and parenteral standards. The position also contributes to quality and safety initiatives as directed by leadership to support Acute Care Alberta's overall patient safety goals. There is flexibility as to the location of this hybrid position within the province of Alberta. Occasional travel between sites may be required.
