About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Health Protection, the Health Protection Consultant provides advanced knowledge, leadership and coordination of public health workforce development at the zone level in the area of health protection.

The Consultant provides an expert level of advice to support and coordinate the implementation of evidence, tools and best practice related to the communicable disease and immunization standards and protocols. The Consultant will work with the Manager to ensure supports are in place across the zone to support the work. The position works closely with public health staff, zone leadership, other NSH consultants and leaders, local stakeholders and system and external partners to ensure consistent, effective outcomes in the area of health protection.

This position is a key support for consistent and quality practice across zones. The Consultant provides guidance, coordination and direction to staff on the use of methods and tools, continually advising staff practice to ensure alignment with established standards of practice, operational requirements and scientific developments. The Consultant also initiates and provides recommendations to the manager on quality initiatives and work practice changes or work force distribution to optimize efficiency.

The Consultant collaborates with system and external partners, identifies and monitors key indicators, and supports knowledge exchange across the health system and other sectors. The Consultant spends time on a daily and weekly basis monitoring trends and gathering local evidence to inform process and operational improvements to protect the health across the zone. The position leads program planning - from assessment to implementation and evaluation using a prevention lens.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Masters\xe2\x80\x99 in public health, environmental health, public health sciences or equivalent with 3-5 years relevant experience
  • Baccalaureate degree in public health sciences, nursing, environmental health or relevant field with 5-7 years relevant experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and 7 years progressive leadership experience may be considered
  • Eligible for registration with a professional body as appropriate
  • Experience in planning, development and evaluation of public health programs, services and initiatives
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Core Competencies for Public Health and LEADS
  • Ability to deal with competing priorities
  • Knowledge of and experience with health protection legislation in the Nova Scotia context
  • Knowledge of and experience in notifiable disease reporting, outbreak reporting
  • Demonstrated innovative systems thinking with an understanding of working with communities
  • Ability to understand and apply the concepts of social justice, health inequalities and health inequities on the health of the population
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
  • Long Assignment Full Time- 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Starting May 2023 (approximately 15 months)
Compensation and Incentives

$36.33 - $45.41 Hourly
