Mandatory Requirements
Ontario Certificate from an accredited PSW program
Registered and in good standing with the Personal Support Worker Registry of Ontario (PSWRO)
Member of the Ontario Personal Support Worker Association (OPSWA)
Skills & Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS)
WHMIS Certification
Advanced or role-specific certifications as applicable (within PSW scope)
Geriatric and dementia care training (GPA, PIECES, U-First, Dementiability)
Demonstrated client-centered approach and ability to work with families
Knowledge of infection control and proper body mechanics
Strong teamwork, professionalism, punctuality, and accountability
Minimum 1 year of experience providing activities of daily living (ADLs) and end-of-life care
Scope of Practice & Clinical Responsibilities
Deliver care in accordance with OPSWA Standards of Practice and WAHA PSW role description, including:
Alzheimer's and dementia care
Ambulating, feeding, bathing, dressing, bladder and bowel care
Exercises, foot care, mouth care, hearing aid care, shaving, skin care
Therapeutic relationships, psychosocial and spiritual support
Transfers, mobility support, and visual impairment assistance
Provide culturally safe care, integrating patients' cultural, spiritual, and psychosocial needs
Key Requirements & Deliverables
Experience & Exposure:
Experience in remote or rural healthcare environments preferred
Prior LTC and acute care experience is an asset
Communication & Documentation:
Document patient assessments and plans of care clearly, concisely, and timely
Communicate assessment findings effectively with interdisciplinary teams
Professional Practice:
Apply critical thinking and clinical judgment during care
Ensure safety and adherence to OPSWA and WAHA policies, procedures, and protocols
Ongoing Development:
Maintain current certifications and pursue continuing education
Complete Aboriginal Awareness training as required
