Overview


The Support Worker plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and assistance to individuals in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and private residences. This position involves supporting clients with daily living activities, ensuring their safety and well-being, and promoting their independence. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for those they serve, particularly individuals with developmental disabilities, Alzheimer's, autism, or other special needs.

Duties



Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting. Provide patient care and support in home health or long-term care settings. Monitor vital signs and report any changes in the client's condition to healthcare professionals. Prepare meals and assist with meal planning according to dietary needs. Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping tasks. Document care plans and client progress while adhering to HIPAA regulations. Engage clients in social activities to promote mental stimulation and emotional well-being. Administer medications as prescribed and ensure compliance with care plans. Utilize equipment such as Hoyer lifts for safe patient transfers when necessary. Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance clients' quality of life.

Skills



First aid and CPR certification are highly desirable. Experience in group homes or assisted living environments is preferred. Strong patient observation skills to identify changes in client behavior or health status. Knowledge of memory care techniques for individuals with dementia or Alzheimer's disease. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting clients with mobility challenges. Experience working with people with disabilities, including developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders. Familiarity with caregiving practices and home health care protocols. Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with clients, families, and healthcare teams. Compassionate demeanor with a strong commitment to providing high-quality support. This role is essential for fostering a supportive environment that encourages independence while ensuring the safety and comfort of those we serve.
