The Opportunity:
The Permits, Licenses, and Approvals Coordinator (PLA coordinator) will support the Lead and coordinate the permitting, licensing, and approval processes for various projects within the Ontario Urban Planning team at WSP. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong coordination and problem-solving skills to ensure timely and efficient acquisition of necessary permits and approvals, while maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.

What you can expect to do here:
  • Permitting and Licensing: Support and coordinate the process of obtaining all necessary permits and licenses for projects, ensuring compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
  • Approval Support: Support the approval process for projects, coordinating with relevant authorities and stakeholders to secure timely approvals.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with internal teams, clients, municipalities, and regulatory agencies to facilitate smooth project execution.
  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed records of all permits, licenses, and approvals, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks related to permits, licenses, and approvals, and develop mitigation strategies to address them.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on changes in regulations and standards, ensuring all projects comply with the latest requirements.
  • Reporting: Provide regular updates to the Lead and leadership team on the status of permits, licenses, and approvals, highlighting any issues or delays.
What you'll bring to WSP:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in permitting, licensing, and approvals, preferably within the planning or construction industry.
  • Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills; proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Certifications: Registered Professional Planner (or working towards certification as a candidate) is mandatory. Relevant certifications in project management or regulatory compliance are a plus.
  • Project Management: Proficiency in project management software and tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of local, provincial, and federal regulations related to permits, licenses, and approvals.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels.
