For over 35 years, we have had a strong commitment to collaborating with our community partners and our mission: to improve the quality of life of people affected by Alzheimer's disease and related dementias through education, outreach, effective programming, and research. Programming includes but is not limited to, 2 locations of Adult Day Programs, In-Home Respite, First Link Care Navigation and support, Education and Behavioural Supports Ontario. We are currently searching for a Perm PT Day Program Support staff to join our team.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Day Program Coordinators and Day Programs Manager, the
Part-Time Day Program Support Staff
will be utilized in the day programs to cover staff sick time, vacation, and other programming needs. The Part-Time Day Program Support Staff will work together with the Day Program team to ensure the highest level of person-centred care through social, physical, and recreational activities that promote self-esteem and the maintenance of brain health.
Responsibilities:
Reports to the Day Program Coordinators and Manager.
Availability to 'float' between Wallaceburg and Chatham Day Programs. Shifts will involve both locations.
Consistently works every Saturday in Chatham Day Program.
Follows Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) procedures as per policy.
Supports the Coordinator with the opening and closing procedures on Saturdays.
Availability to replace staff in their absence.
Supports the coordination and implementation of activities for the Day Program.
Assists clients with personal care and the completion of Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), using a person-centred approach.
Supports physical and social activities to maintain skills and abilities.
Assists in set-up and clean-up of snacks, meals, and activities.
Assists clients with mobility as needed to reduce the risk of falls.
Documents within ASCK's Day Program guidelines.
Provides exceptional communication with clients, care partners and other staff.
Requirements:
PSW Certification.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
A solid understanding and application of confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Current First Aid & CPR Certification.
A Food Handler's Certificate approved be the Ontario Ministry of Health.
Valid driver's license
Access to a dependable vehicle
Training in GPA, Montessori or U-First would be an asset.
Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment.
Qualifications:
Ability to understand that those with dementia are all unique individuals who require specialized attention to their personhood and that care should be delivered accordingly.
Knowledge and work experience with people affected by Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia is required.
Sensitivity to the needs of those affected by dementia.
Ability to utilize best practice care within scope of PSW role.
Demonstrated professional work ethic and behaviours with internal and external contacts.
Demonstrated effectiveness working with minimal supervision and proven reliability and trustworthiness.
Excellent written and verbal skills for both receiving and providing information.
Working Conditions:
Must follow IPAC procedures to ensure safety of clients and staff.
Considerable standing and walking in workspace.
Bending and lifting of program items.
Assisting with mobility and toileting.
Some food preparation.
