The Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences is seeking a Occupational Therapist reporting to the Clinical Manager of the Geriatric Service In-patient Service Area. The Occupational Therapist will be responsible for working in our Recovery-based environment and for the ongoing development and implementation of psychosocial rehabilitation programs to meet the needs of patients.
Responsibilities include: Providing program level referral-based consultation and support within the interdisciplinary team; completion of comprehensive assessments; individual and group programs; liaison with family and community agencies; assesses and provide seating and mobility aids; active involvement as a member of a multidisciplinary team and treatment coordination and planning to meet the recovery needs of the discharging patient.
Requirements:
A Masters degree (or equivalent), in Occupational Therapy.
Registered with the College of Occupational Therapists in good standing.
Current CPR is required.
Experience and knowledge of Geriatric mental health issues, including Major Neurocognitive Disorder.
Knowledge of movement patterns, seating and mobility services. Having ADP authorization is considered an asset
o Demonstrated knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery.
3-5 years psychiatric experience in a mental health facility or Long-term care service is desirable.
Demonstrated knowledge of the College Standards of Practice and commitment to maintaining reflective practice standards as described by the College.
Demonstrated knowledge of Mental Health, and relevant policies and legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and PHIPA is required.
An in-depth knowledge and experience of the challenges involved in community reintegration of short and longer stay psychiatric inpatients with mental illness.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrated advanced knowledge short term treatment with a generalized mental health population.
Thorough knowledge and ability to administer standardized tests as applied in mental health settings.
Demonstrated competence in individual and group programming skills.
The candidate will have demonstrated excellent interpersonal and effective oral/written communication skills.
The ability to work with clients of diverse ethno racial and cultural backgrounds and proficiency in a second language would be considered an asset.
Current driver's license;
Ability to perform the physical demands of the position.
