Purpose of Position:



This position provides direct program delivery of goal focused training and support for children and youth who are experiencing mental health issues/challenging behaviour in home and community of Dawson Creek/Chetwynd.

Program delivery involves the provision support services that maintain or improve the social development, relationships, vocational and independent living skills, behavioural and mental health of child/youths who, for a variety of reasons may require support services.

Scope of Position:



Reporting to Independence Networking Services - Consultant, this position will involve implementation of support services for children, youth and families using a social development model and interdisciplinary approach. Support Services are tailored to the special needs and limitations of child/youths receiving services. Support Services will be delivered with dignity and in a respectful manner.

Services will be delivered ensuring the supports are aligned with our agency Mission, Philosophy, Vision, and Guiding Principles embracing the Circle of Courage and Trauma Informed models of support.

Responsibilities:



1. Community Support



Activities



Facilitates child/youth interaction to increase/enhance community inclusion

Maintains open communication with community resources, professionals and agencies

Interacts with others involved with child/youth to support the child/youths' relationships within the community.

Works closely with family members to organize and implement activities that encourage family participation/assistance.

Share resources relevant to the needs of the child/youth and family.

Provide input with the stakeholders to assist families/relatives in providing care or providing assistance for the child/youth to make appropriate living plans, resolve transition issues, or cope with other difficulties.

Advocate for supported child/youths within the mental health and criminal justice systems: attend appointments with probation, court appearances; provide documentation to support restrictive measures that will impact on health and safety for the supported child/youth.

Provide observations and input regarding effectiveness of medication and interventions in place with family and child/youths.

2. Provision of Family Support Services



Activities



Teach, mentor, and develop pro-social skills to children, youth and their families as outlined in personal goal plan.

Involve child/youth in activities in the community identified to meet his/her needs (including transportation) using non-aversive strategies.

Assist child/youth in developing a schedule that promotes functional routines within the home/school environment.

Keep a record of all contacts with child/youth/family outlining activities participated in, progress and barriers, for each visit.

Complete documentation for each child/youth: Intake reports; quarterly/monthly reports for each child/youth receiving service; and discharge reports.

Follow through with strategies in place for the child/youth that will enhance his/her skill level and increase his/her quality of life. These strategies must be introduced with sensitivity and discretion.

Ensure procedures are followed according to established standards.

If required review effectiveness of medication and support to access education regarding medication. Provide documentation to track medication side effects/effectiveness and support to monitor.

Facilitate/Co-facilitate skills groups for children and youth that enhance social interaction and coping mechanisms.

Facilitate/Co-facilitate skills groups for families/caregivers to improve relationships between parents and children/youth and increase a sense of belonging for children/youth within the family.

Support families/caregivers to increase skill levels that build resiliency within the family home and community including strategies that align with the model of positive discipline.

3. Participates as Part of an INS Interdisciplinary Team to Provide Services.



Activities



Act as a participating member of child/youth's team; fostering a positive relationship with all members.

Attend all relevant meetings and appointments for child/youth and training as requested by INS Inc.

Assist to complete intake information; develop goals as established with child/youth's team (child/youth, family, INS Consultant).

Assist to complete behavioural assessment and plans as required

Documenting and reporting any abuse or critical incidents of the supported child/youths.

Carrying out all duties in a manner that provides respect and dignity for child/youth; follow INS policies /code of Conduct at all times.

Complete annual SPOT and TARGET to clarifying career goals; participate in identification of personal training needs.

By preparing personal work plans including goals and objectives.

Qualifications:



Education and Knowledge:

- Degree in a related human / social service field (post-Secondary education or training equivalencies in the areas of trauma and addiction, developmental disability; Dialectical Behavioural Therapy; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

Training and Experience:

-One-year recent related experience (1-year experience in delivering behavioural support services for children and youth; at-risk behaviour; mental health issues; developmental disability; supporting families)

or

-Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
