Reports To: Lead, Sectoral Integration & Technical Branding, Programs & Policy

Position Term: Full Time Term for 2 Years

This is a perfect opportunity for a People Leader who has strong understanding of the humanitarian and development field to enable them to understand the work objectives of their team and be equipped to coach and support the team accordingly.

Job Purpose:

The People leader is responsible for creating a positive and effective working environment for a team of Technical Specialists and MEAL Specialists to accomplish work objectives across multiple cross-functional areas. In partnership with the Sector Leads/Product Owners, the People Leader will support the well-being of staff through regular check-ins and ensure that the team has tools to succeed, identify barriers and seek to resolve them through coaching and facilitating connections.

In addition, the People Leader will coordinate team devotions, team meetings, celebrations and leave approval. Be responsible for all recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training, as well as coordinating professional development across the team.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and People Management

  • Create a positive and effective working environment through management of team capacity and removal of barriers to allow team to accomplish work objectives.
  • Review annual and quarterly OKRs established by Sector Leads, with reference to the impact on individual Technical Specialist and MEAL Specialists within team.
  • Together with Sector Leads, support Technical Specialist and MEAL Specialists with quarterly priorities through forums such as Big Room Planning to ensure workload is managed across the team.
  • Act as a coach for Technical Specialist and MEAL Specialists on the challenges they are facing.
  • Review quarterly work progress through shared tracking tools and trouble shoot work capacity issues, reprioritize work objectives in collaboration with Sector Leads.
  • Give input on work injections that emerge during the quarter from a team capacity perspective helping Technical Specialist and MEAL Specialists to re-prioritize workload as needed.
  • Ensure appropriate coverage from Sector Leads and other team members for Technical Specialist and MEAL Specialists who are on leave or traveling.
  • Together with Sector Leads, support Technical Specialist and MEAL Specialists to identify and resolve barriers to their work including facilitating connections for them with the right people to help within P&P and across WVC and WVI.
  • Champion team involvement in WVC initiatives (i.e. new technology, Our Voice, enterprise meetings, weekly Chapel etc.)
Team Support and Well-being
  • Conduct biweekly and regular check-ins with team members to ensure support and coaching on managing workload, navigating barriers and interpersonal challenges.
  • Approve vacations, support maternity & paternity leaves and ensure connection to People & Culture services.
  • Coordinate team devotions, meetings and celebrations.
  • Monitor and support staff members during travel and travel recovery.
  • Identify common themes and challenges to the well-being of staff and seek to solve.
Team Development
  • Ensure a fully staffed and skilled team is in place with opportunities for career growth.
  • Coordinate recruitment, hiring, onboarding and training with input from functional leads.
  • Coordinate professional development needs across team and advocate for funds and time to be carved out for them to implement these.
  • Ensure all staff are oriented to WVC\'s core documents, policies and procedures, fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion and respect for differences.
  • Conduct best self-reviews with input from Sector Leads and others on the team as applicable.
Qualifications:
  • University Degree (Masters preferred) in a field related to international or community/social development paired with experience or a Human resources certification or a Degree/Certification in Human resources paired with experience in International Development
  • Demonstrated understanding of the pressures and stresses of working in international development contexts, especially in fragile contexts and the demands on staff time and well-being
  • Experienced in coaching and mentoring high performance teams and individuals.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, emotional intelligence, able to build relationships, resolve conflicts and foster a positive team environment.
  • Problem-solving skills, able to identify and solve problems that arise within the team.
  • 3+ years of people management experience
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies and working styles an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative with confidence and sound judgement, while managing several moving parts simultaneously
  • Strong ability to read and analyze political dynamics within working relations, and the ability to build and promote constructive internal and external relationships - strong collaborative and networking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-organizationally and cross-culturally in a complex organization to ensure alignment and realization of strategic goals
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills: use of other computer applications an asset
  • Fluent in English; other languages an asset
