Pension Specialist, Saskatchewan Teachers' Retirement Plan
The Saskatchewan Teachers' Retirement Plan is currently seeking two Pension Specialists to provide support to our pension plan members.

About the team
The Saskatchewan Teachers' Retirement Plan staff administer the pension plan that covers Saskatchewan teachers, ensuring they have a lifetime pension on retirement. The STRP staff use their professional skills to provide accurate calculations and support to teachers planning and during their retirement.
What you'll do
With a focus on service and plan member experience, this position is part of a team of pension specialists that provides member services through multiple forms of communication. The Pension Specialist ensures members receive accurate and timely pension information and provides clarity to assist members in understanding their benefits under the STRP Plan Text and applicable legislation.
Responsibilities include:
Answer inquiries with regards to STRP plan provisions.
Manage STRP general email account and provides responses and direction to members.
Apply understanding of STRP's relationship within the STF and with external teaching partners to guide member to other benefit plans, Senior Administrative Staff or Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan to ensure member is aware of resources available to them as required.
Meet with members on an individual basis to explain benefit eligibility and options under the Plan Text. Provide explanations of pension legislation and impact of each option to the member.
Respond with a detailed explanation directly to members regarding any requests/calculations that are not eligible under the Plan or which have been restricted by provincial or federal legislation.
Calculate spousal relationship breakdown values and provides correspondence on requirements for a marriage settlement payout request and subsequent impact to member's pension.
Evaluate member eligibility for benefit entitlements and other optional pension transactions such as purchases of service, transfers to other pension plans, etc.
Attend to the more complicated pension calculations that require analysis of member's complex situations, interpretation and application of plan rules, policies and applicable legislation.
Research and investigate situations that are not typical to the Plan; presents case analysis and solutions to team lead and plan manager.
Consistently review system generated calculation results to ensure the pension benefits are administered correctly and in accordance with the Plan Text and applicable legislation.
Peer review calculations and option statements performed by another pension specialist or a pension technician for accuracy and compliance.
Triage incoming member requests and optimize workflow by reviewing member file to determine any applicable deadlines and request by urgency.
Liaise and build relationships with other pension plan authorities that participate in the reciprocal agreements.
Work with school divisions on any member data issues that are problematic.
Trains, mentor, and coach junior pension technicians and pension technicians.
Maintain the Specialist Policy and Procedures manual to ensure the content is current and complete for reference and training purposes.
Develop and provide group pension presentations.
Create and develop statistical reports for internal analysis and management reporting.
Continually review plan operations and internal processes with team lead and plan manager to incorporate efficiencies.
Provide assistance in the development, composition and review of various communication materials to ensure they are up to date and accurate.
What you'll bring
An undergraduate degree in the area of economics or commerce, combined with 3-4 years of related pension experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
A Pension Plan Administration Certificate or equivalent is preferred. Consideration will be given to those who do not have a pension designation or related experience, as training will be provided; however, the incumbent will be required to enroll and successfully complete the requirements of the Pension Plan Administration Certificate.
Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with members, employees at all organizational levels and with officials of other organizations.
Proficiency in Excel and Word.
Demonstrated skill in arithmetic and mathematics.
Experience and/or training in an automated pension administration system.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply pension plan legislation, text, and policies.
Good knowledge of pension plan administration principles, techniques and practices.
Demonstrated high work standards.
Mature judgment.
High degree of initiative and motivation.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.
Organizational skills.
