Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Total Compensation, the Payroll Technician ensures accurate and, timely processing of payroll for full-time and part-time staff while ensuring the College is in compliance with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), Union and other governing agencies. This includes reviewing payroll and time and attendance data, performing manual inputs and conducting audits with the Workday system. The incumbent must have an in depth understanding of all aspects of payroll, collective agreements, and statutory deductions to ensure that employees are paid correctly and that all remittances are correct. This incumbent is in regular contact with college employees, internal departments and external organization related to payroll preparation and payroll related issues.


Duties and Responsibilities

Payroll Processing - Processes in accordance with struct deadlines, full-time, and part-time payroll information for all staff.

Analyses data provided by People and Culture and Finance departments to ensure the accurate remuneration of the College employees regarding any transaction that would affect an employees pay such as: salary, deductions, benefits, retirements, termination and leaves of absence, etc. Analyses any changes in legislation, pension or union collective agreements that have an impact on payroll Prepares Records of Employment for employees and Service Canada Prepares analysis and remittances of items such as: Canada Pension, Employment insurance, union dues, EHT, WSIB, etc. in order to ensure that the appropriate contributions are being deducted from employees and remitted to the various agencies or organizations. Provides complete and accurate responses to payroll related inquiries from College employees, government agencies and other public institutions through verbal and written communication. Exhibits high levels of tact and sensitivity when responding or communicating with employees.

Qualifications

Two (2) year diploma in Accounting (or equivalent) and/or Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certificate Minimum of two (2) years experience organizing, prioritizing and scheduling a high volume of payroll tasks and information, typically under strict time constraints. Experience working in a self-directed and collaborative environment with minimal supervision. Experience in a computerized accounting environment (Financial System i.e. Multiview, Highline) Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills Union environment experience
