Payroll Specialist

to join our Corporate Office on a full-time, 12- month temporary contract, with the possibility of extension. This position reports to the Director of Payroll and Emergency Workforce HR.



HPS is a rapidly growing company with a bi-weekly payroll of up to 750 employees across Canada and the US. This role will work within a team of 3-4 payroll & human resource professionals.



As a valued member of the Payroll and Storm HR team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the integrity of the payroll information remaining intact throughout the collection, calculation, processing and distribution of both Canadian and US payrolls. They will assist Employees, Management, and outside Government Agencies with their inquiries and requests which includes the reporting, verification and analysis of associate information within the standards of company and legislated compliance requirements. This role has full accountability to ensure that required data, documentation and approvals are received prior to the processing deadline each pay period. They must facilitate processing of the submitted payroll for the assigned pay groups, validate the payroll output for accuracy and submit the final payroll for approval. Additionally, this role must provide excellent customer service to internal staff, resolve payroll problems, run routine and customized reports, complete routine filing, and other administrative responsibilities as necessary.



You will also be responsible to identify process improvements to ensure we are continuously improving our service.

Key Responsibilities:

Accurate & timely Interprovincial and US payroll processing, focusing on Quebec payroll requirements Collect, analyze and verify payroll information Data entry and file maintenance of payroll and HR documents Review timesheets and verify hours Process multiple payrolls in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of integrity Comply with Company Policies and Government Legislation Calculate and administer special payments in accordance with Provincial, Federal and US legislation Processing of Record of Employments and final payments to employees Support audits, reporting and data analysis requests Support Year End Procedures, including T4's, T4A's, T2200's, W2's, Releve1's, etc Discover and correct payroll errors, process adjustments Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education Required: College Diploma, Accounting or Business and/or equivalent on the job experience. Years of Experience: 2+ years' work experience in a high-volume hourly payroll environment. Currently have a professional payroll certification (PCP)

or

proven previous payroll expertise. Ability to manage tight deadlines and prioritize in a fast-paced and dynamic environment Robust organizational skills and a heightened sense of urgency Experience processing full-cycle payroll in a manual, high-volume environment (from data entry through balancing and verifying complex tax calculations) Bilingual (French/English) preferred Exceptional computer and systems skills; including intermediate to advanced Excel skills Experience with ADP or Jonas is an asset but is not a requirement




The payroll department provides support to the emergency response services of the company and overtime will be required during peak seasons. There are also additional hours required for year end processing.
