To better serve the British Columbia region and support our growth, we will be relocating from Delta to South Surrey in late spring/early summer of 2025.
Overview of the Position:
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing and processing payroll and ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with provincial regulations. This role oversees payroll administration, including tax deductions, benefits processing, and year-end reporting. Additionally, the position requires collaboration with HR and Finance departments to maintain seamless payroll operations and address employee inquiries in a professional and efficient manner.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Process bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll for 130-150 employees accurately and timely
Resolve payroll discrepancies and answer employee inquiries regarding payroll-related matters
Ensure compliance with all employment legislation and regulatory guidelines
Support the Finance department in remitting payroll deductions
Complete payroll year-end requirements, including payroll cash flow projections, month-end general ledger account reconciliations, year-end processes, updating taxable benefits, producing T4 Summaries, T4 slips and T2200s
Ensure payroll compliance and follow up on CRA inquiries
Reviewing and responding to PIER reports
Manage employee records, resolve inquiries, and process terminations
Monitor month-end vacation accruals, statutory adjustments, and year-end adjustments.
Monitor and process RRSP and Pension contributions
Works closely with the Finance department to ensure accurate payroll-related reporting.
Prepare and submit payroll reports to management as required
Prepare and issue ROE's
Participates in internal and external payroll audits
Keep updated TD1 forms for all employees
Keep up-to-date employee banking information
Lead or support payroll projects as required
Support HR functions as required
Experience and Qualifications:
Hold a National Payroll Institute PCP designation
Degree or diploma in Business Administration or related fields would be an asset
Minimum of 4 years of experience in preparing payroll and payroll processes in varied Canadian provincial jurisdictions
Minimum of 2 years of experience processing hourly and salaried payroll in UKG (Pro & WFN)
Familiar with Western Canadian provincial employment laws and payroll regulations
1-2 years of accounting experience with knowledge of GAAP would be an asset
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
Experience in handling varied employee benefits and allowances
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments
Capable of handling confidential, sensitive and personal information
High level of accuracy and attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
