POSITION SUMMARY:

As Payroll Manager for salaried payroll, you will play a key role in overseeing payroll operations for Western Canada. This position is responsible for transacting, processing, balancing, ensuring compliance and establishing improvement processes for salaried payroll for approximately 300 employees. Reporting to the Vice-President Finance, this role will collaborate with local business units and cross-functional teams in Finance, Human Resources, and Operations. The ideal candidate requires a high level of attention to detail, initiative, coordination, and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams. Effective leadership and collaboration with various business units, and project teams is essential to the overall success.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:




  • Manage all facets of salaried payroll administration to guarantee accuracy and efficiency.
  • Drive ongoing enhancements within the payroll function, making it more streamlined and effective.
  • Aligns departmental objectives with overall corporate direction to offer optimal payroll services.
  • Manages workload, projects, and priorities to maximize efficiency and meet operational requirements.
  • Ensures systems are in place to accurately capture and process payroll information, such as time sheets, direct deposits, wage attachments, benefits, etc.
  • Develops and refines payroll processes to ensure delivery of pay and related information to employees in a timely manner, as well as to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and union contracts across provinces and territories in the West.
  • Maintains professional knowledge up to date by monitoring legislative changes impacting pay and benefits practices. Ensures compliance with legislative changes by the Company.
  • Prepare a variety of payroll-related documents for the purpose of documenting activities, processes, and issues.
  • Oversees and reviews preparation of payroll and benefit related account reconciliations.
  • Maintains a wide variety of payroll information, files, and records in written and electronic formats for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
  • Assists in developing and monitoring automated systems.
  • Manages year-end activities including Audits, T4 related activities and CRA remittances
  • Prepare and analyze monthly payroll reports and conduct statistical analysis to ensure accuracy.
  • Guarantee precise and punctual payroll processing on both pay period and ongoing bases.
  • Quarterly reconciliation of payroll accounts, including hours, rates, wcb, etc.
  • Prepare salary variance report each pay period
  • Assist Auditors with reliable, accurate and timely information
  • Identify and implement process improvements to optimize payroll operations.
  • Maintain the company\'s payroll system, ensuring compliance and accuracy by updating tax tables, organizational changes, and union agreements.
  • Handle unemployment claims, employment verifications, and employee inquiries while providing excellent customer service to various stakeholders.

REQUIREMENTS/EXPERIENCE:
  • Post secondary in Business Administration, Accounting or related field,
  • 5- 7+ years of in-house progressive payroll experience
  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) designation considered a strong asset
  • Experience in a supervisory role considered an asset
  • Computer proficiency \xe2\x80\x93 Microsoft Office (Excel & Outlook)
  • Experience with a large ERP system (JDE would be an asset)
  • Demonstrated capability to manage confidential information and sensitive materials with utmost discretion and professionalism
  • Ability to work independently with a diverse and sometimes remote team
  • High level of customer service orientation
