Payroll & Benefits Administrator to join our team in our Calgary location!



Western Energy Services Corp. (Corporate) is an energy service company which provides contract drilling services through Horizon Drilling in Canada and Stoneham Drilling Corporation in the United States. In addition, Western provides well servicing through Eagle Well Servicing in Canada, and provides rental services through Aero Rental Services in Canada.


Position Summary





Based in our Calgary head office, and reporting directlyto the Payroll Supervisor, the Payroll and Benefits Administrator is responsible for the administration of benefit plans including but not limited to Group Health and Dental, Employee Assistance Program, Group Registered Retirement Savings, and acting as a key back-up resource.



This role will also be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll, payroll remittances, and related reporting, including month-end reconciliations, and T4/W2 preparation. You will support payroll operations for employees across multiple divisions in Canada and the U.S., processing payroll on a bi-weekly and semi-monthly basis. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills will be required as communication and client inquiry assistance will be a key component within this position.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities




Support payroll team members with processing Canadian and U.S. employee payrolls, including data entry, payroll validation, report verification and more via Dayforce on a bi-weekly and semi-monthly basis. Maintain employee records in the HRIS, including updates for new hires, terminations, leaves of absence, benefit deductions, and garnishments. Generate routine payroll reports and assist with reconciliations, audits, and year-end reporting (e.g., T4s, W2s, T2202s). Provide administrative support for benefit programs, including health and dental, EAP, and group RRSP plans. Process employee benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations in HRIS and with carriers as required. Support HR in communicating benefit information and assisting employees with related inquiries. Respond to employee questions regarding payroll and benefits with a focus on customer service. Document payroll and benefits processes to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing within the team. Provide back-up support for payroll staff during absences, peak periods, or as assigned. Perform other administrative duties as required to support the payroll and HR teams. Other duties as required.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities




Certified Payroll Professional (PCP) or working towards certification or a minimum 1 year of relevant work experience in payroll, and benefits administration. Experience with HRIS systems (Dayforce preferred) and a strong aptitude for learning new software. Strong MS Office skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to respond to inquiries in a professional and timely manner. The ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully and confidentially at all times. Positive, team-oriented attitude with a focus on accuracy and reliability.
